But generally I'd just say fuck it and get a guy that can run and give him a simple offense.

Exactly. It makes your offense less reliant on a single guy who might have a bad day throwing the ball or get hurt. It improves the numbers in the running game in a way that benefits the whole offense.

And when you find a guy who can really run and be even an above average passer, you have the potential to be absolutely devastating. There are a lot more of those than there are elite pocket passing prospects.
