Lanning doesn't stay at Oregon because he loves Eugene or is an alum
Oregon stepped up.
Lanning was never offered the Bama job for the 50th time.
They weren't going to offer him when they could get DeBoer, he was 0-3 against DeBoer.
Lanning to LSU is an interesting one. I could see it.
all the LSU insiders have already said Lanning is impossible. He has both Oregon and Nike buyouts that go into the $50 million+ total range.

Unfortunately, Oregon might secretly be the best job in the country. You have unlimited resources and should never win less than 10 games. Even if you do manage to fuck that up, I don’t think they’d ever fire you for going 8-4 or something.

I don’t know about that. Oregon is not what it once was. Expectations are astronomical every year because there are zero (see what I did there?) excuses for not being a playoff team.
If Lanning goes 8-4, he may not get fired, but there will be a lot of Duck fans ready to haul his ass out of town in their beater 4x4.

It is a great job. They have everything you need to produce a winner, but there isn’t crazy pressure where one mediocre season gets you canned.

UW is a great job for the same reasons.

I agree that Oregon combines slightly less win or GTFO while having more money than a lot of these SEC schools, and Lanning has turned himself into a quick hero by hammering that he will never leave, but I think they still justifiably have high expectations. Especially with grim reaper hopefully sitting in Phil's bedroom.
An 8-4 season there should and would get you on the hotseat. Especially playing against the mediocrity and drek that is the Big 10 outside of Ohio State.

As @DerekJohnson wrote, Lanning loves winning more than his own wife.
This season feels different. The offense has been up and down more than any previous season. Stein is predictable to a lot of savvy DCs, as evidenced by 2 years in a row of being stifled by shitty Wisconsin and the IU debacle. There's no upward trajectory or clear indication this team has any chance in the playoff, which i doubt it will make anyway.
I think Lanning might consider LSU if Oregon tanks down the stretch, which I think is a distinct possibility. It could be a visceral decision that he regrets, but this is the year to leave. So many openings. He could name his price. I think LSU would be the place he'd consider. He'd outperform Brian Kelly by year 2 at the latest.
I hope he stays but hookers and blow are powerful drugs.

My big question with Oregon's offense was seeing it without a true running threat at QB. I don't know how dangerous it would be without one. Then you don't have guys who are really deadly at WR like Franklin and Tez Johnson. Then you replace a first round LT with a guy who wasn't even an All-Mountain West guy but who got declared a first round pick…I'll stop there…

I think the season is pretty much in line with what people expected back in August. The problem is winning at penn state shifted quook’s and their media enabler’s (Pate and pickell) opinions from 10-2/9-3 borderline playoff team to “we natty bro”.

Now it turns out Penn state isn’t good and expectations are snapping back to where they were 2 months ago.

if Bama wins a natty this year I could see Grubb getting offered and taking Iowa State if Campbell finally pulls the trigger to leave or Iowa if Farentz is ready to call it quits after getting the all tim B10 wins mark. He’s an Iowa guy. Might be down to go home for 5-6 million per year. Either program would be blown away by what a 21st century offense looks like up close.

10-2 was the expectation if not the floor given the middling schedule.
We expected to lose at PSU but all other games were favored Oregon.
I hate that the PSU game has been tainted badly because I think every team outside of OSU and IU loses that game. Years of big game James narrative and enormous pressure cratered that team.
I'm convinced the PSU fallout also has affected Oregon. Can they get it together for Iowa? I'm not expecting so. This game determines the season.

you lose to Iowa and you deserve whatever misery comes from there just as fisher deserves the tarmac if he drops any of the next three.

How many do you think Kim gets right here? Does Sark sell the couch for the Titans? Baby Neuheisel to the Boov? J?

To be fair there were a lot of you crowing pretty fucking hard after the Montana State and Oklahoma State games. I won't name names, because I don't need to, because it was pretty much all of you.

The quooks on here were having a field day lol

LSU is a total train wreck, guys. The AD/Booster/state government relationship there is more toxic than ever.
Firing BK was absolutely retarded on their part. That coaching search will be the most tragic of all of these openings

I don’t think LSU is the job to worry about for Lanning, it’s either Georgia or the Chiefs. The latter of which wouldn’t hire him anyway
