I don't know if money is fully the issue or not, but I do know what you mean. It seemed like the whole world was riding on that '86 series. One didn't dare miss any of it. These days, I don't think I've watched a World Series in 3-4 years. I know the steroid era really stuck in my craw, because I was a numbers junkie and baseball stats were very important. But when lead off hitters were suddenly hitting 50 home runs, the authenticity of the game vanished for me. The owners wanted to make the game more exciting so they looked the other way. Then when called on it, they feigned ignorance. Kind of like Dawgman.com. So fuck it.
