Statistically, it's supposed to be better to go for every single 4th down.
If Pete were to go for it on 4th every time on the opponents 45-20, I'd actually be okay with it
Every time? Not even close.
More often than most coaches go for it? Yes, especially early in the game or when the field goal doesn’t cross a key number.
But it will kill us when we need a FG to win or tie at the end.
Every time is hyperbole, but studies have shown your odds of winning increase by going for it at every opportunity. Too risky for any coach though, even Leach.
Still doesnt negate the fact a reliable kicking game is a season saver in close games.
No studies show that. Maybe you are thinking of the high school coach in Arkansas that never punts or kicks field goals but 1. that is high school where they can't kick anyway and 2. he has vastly superior talent
Husky skeeet posted the chart- most coaches punt far too often but aren't that far off on when they take the points.
Obviously that chart is based on pure expected points and doesn't take into account the game situation.
