Petersen "looking to rebuild the culture" at Washington

Coach, who doesn't say much about anything highlights the need of 'culture' change.

5th year senior starting QB... gone

NFL TE...... gone

NFL RB ........ gone.

Projected starting QB suspended

Starting WR suspended.

Why no Natty talk?
 
"Where the players are all brand new." This assessment of what Husky football 2014 is could have many meanings: new to Petersen and staff; new to doogman.com; new to bleacherreport.com; and most importantly, new to us.

What happened to the five returning OL starters....... could they be new? And WR's Williams, Mickens, Ross, and Hall or TE's Perkins and Hartvigson are not exactly new, are they? LB's Littleton, Feeney, Timu, and Thompson, along with DL's Kikaha, Hudson, and Shelton and DB Peters are familiar names that can't be new and should be the nucleus of a formidable defense or so we've been told by the experts, right?

With a new head coach often comes brand new uni fashions and maybe that's what 2014 will be all about.

Hawaii on the road - expected Win = 1-0
EWU at Home - expected Win = 2-0
Illinois at Home - expected Win = 3-0
G. State at Home- expected Win = 4-0
Stanford at Home- expected Win = 5-0 (I expect them to win)
California on the road - expected Win = 6-0
Oregon on the road - expected Loss = 6-1
ASU at Home - expected Win = 7-1 (ASU Defense needs rebuilding)
Colorado on the road - expected Win = 8-1
UCLA at Home- expected Loss = 8-2
Arizona on the road - expected Loss = 8-3
OSU at Home - expected Win = 9-3
WSU on the road - expected Win = 10-3

I don't find this unrealistic. There could always be the unexpected loss but there also could be the unexpected win.
As it stands the two toughest games are Oregon at Autzen and UCLA at home since we historically have played poorly
against UCLA

They can/should at least split those two. They've gotten drilled in Tucson the past several years, but with an adult in charge, that will change. Same thing with Yookla.

I expect 11-2 (or better).
 
NFL TE, not even a major threat this year, did he even block? Projected starting QB, by who? Didn't Pete open up competition? NFL running back replaced by two upperclassman who looked to recover %100 from Ivan's knee curse....starting WR, suspended, but no official charges filed, and the parade all american returns to the fied with Ross and Mickens who make it almost impossible to bracket Kasen

On offense, I think we miss ASJ most. I'm not a huge ASJ fan, but I'm skeptical about 220 pound Josh Perkins, Hartvigson, and Ajamu doing much. Perkins may end up being a receiving threat.

Whether it is by committee or Washington is the guy, I think we will run the ball well. The OL is solid at run blocking.

At QB, one of those guys should be pretty good. That might be optimistic, but if you have three 4 star QB's, at least one should be good. Lindquist strikes me as not having what it takes, but he does have physical talent. I'm anxious to see Williams.
 
We played like absolute garbage against UCLA and ASU, and that is on Sark. If this team has any heart we'll look to avenge those games at home against warm weather teams (maybe the weather won't factor, whatever). I agree though, Arizona is a trap game as usual. I want to say that we'll come out and make it close against the ducks or win by running it down their throats, but it's hard to back that outcome given the recent history.
 
Petersen's offense doesn't really feature the TE that much so I'm not sure that losing ASJ is going to be that much of an impact. The return of a healthy Williams may do the trick. It hasn't really donned on everyone but the offense is going to look very different. We're not going to see a team that relies on the TB to carry the ball 35 times a game like Sankey did for us. The QB that wins the starting position is going to be the guy that is accurate ..can sling the ball around a lot yet still get the TB off. A kid like Lavon Coleman should do well since he's a bruiser with speed.
 
Arizona will be breaking in a new QB and new tailback. Their D was much improved this year but not great. On paper I think we can and should win.

I think Coleman-Washington will be a solid 1a-1b combo in the backfield.

I'm a big fan of Price but think the offense won't miss him much because the new QB will give us the run threat we didn't have with Price. We will miss his leadership though.

I think Price was afraid to throw to ASJ down the middle unless he was wide open or heading to the back of the endzone. I think we miss his blocking more since none of the replacements will be a good blocker to begin with.

Where does Daniels fit in?

String-Kasen-Mickens-Ross will be a nasty WR group.

Why would you say that?

We barely know what Miles can do.

Price was practically in a wheel chair ... up or down by 50 and still out there playing.

Petersen has never had a TE with ASJ's ability. He's a smart coach. He designs his offenses around the players he has to work with. ASJ would be featured if he was still here. I do agree that Peterman will find a way to work around it, and we have big WR's to help block in Kasen, String, and Daniels.

I think the opposite would happen. It would shape the team and make the rest of the 80+ scholarship players that much more stronger.

They would realize play time is over and it's time to start treating like this a fucking job.

Yeah....see how well the team played in the bowl game? BYU was the 2nd best bowl opponent (according to the metrics) for the pac-12.

Let's hope they have that mindset for the 2014 season.

I hate Sark and he did underachieve, but going 9-4 with all 4 losses to top 25 teams is not really low performing. The talent is there, but the team underachieved. Of course, it will be hard to win a Pac North Championship. It's always going to be hard, but we should compete for it right away. Oregon hasn't won the North 2 years in a row despite being a top 10 year.

Not that we are Ohio State, but Urban Meyer came in after a 6-6 season and went 12-0. Ohio State had talent. UW has talent. Now, we have the coach that can hopefully maximize the talent as take us to the next level. It's not rare for teams to get better after hiring a new coach. UCLA got much better going from Rick to Mora.

No. He never sacked up and told us how many wins and losses we're supposed to have with our "middling" talent.
