This. He was the #3 LB in a liberal rotation, getting meaningful snaps on a P4 team. Seems pretty good for a kid that was playing in the MW last year. If he got $100,000 from UW paid in full and gets another $100,000 somewhere else next year then I guess that’s good on him and bad on Montlake Futures. He must have Lou Browned that contract on the field Wednesday afternoon. Like I said, Gaaaaaaaay!
 
Who knows what his contracts looked like in terms of guarantees, upfront vs paid by month, game, etc. It's certainly possible MF or whoever could sue him, but hopefully they take the long-term view here and just let him walk even if he has pocketed unearned money. Collectives/schools will get reputations on this stuff with agents over time. Make it as frictionless as possible for the players and agents and you could end up paying out less to get them to sign over time.
 
Redshirts will go away with the next step in the evolution of unrestricted free agency. Or maybe they go the opposite and completely divorce from academis and eligibility. Let the good college player with no pro future play in college as long as they want. The Kellen Moore’s of the world could make a great living on NIL earnings for 15 years.
 
Khmori House is making a move in the rotation and Anthony Ward is back healthy so it makes sense from his end.
If Montlake Futures doesn't have a claw back on 1 year NIL deals or doesn't have a clause that says a player must pay back their NIL cash if they don't play the full season (barring injury), then they will now.

Being militant on clawbacks will put you at a competitive disadvantage. Will take a couple of cycles for that to be apparent.

If they are smart it's on a game by game basis

I don't think Ward even plays his own position

Saw a comment on this on reddit (75k) which is true.

He gave up a personal foul last week and got pulled from the game, on a 3rd and 21. I'm sure that was a huge point of emphasis for the team to not do that. Belichick was pissed on the sidelines.

For real though I think these guys need alot more hate. Even before the NIL craze I thought it was kind of retarded to baby them when they are basically professional athletes
