PaoPao

Special teams (kicking and snapping aside) is a reflection of the depth of your program
Our depth was a combination of young and shitty … sometimes abundance
The punting issues were there well before this year … upgrading the punter is a requirement.
We'll see what they do with Gross … at minimum he should be competing for his job next year.
If special teams sucks ass next year then let's have the discussion on PaoPao …
As it is take the offseason to review if there are any structural elements that need to be addressed … the balance of this is going to solved by better players
Our special teams immediately regressed when Lambo took over for James
Weren’t we also on a scholarship reduction as well?
That wouldn't have affected it immediately. They didn't kick players off the team.

Having Pao Pao follow the staff from Tucson to Seattle was a red flag on Jed in my book. Especially for UW fans because he was a dog shit recruiter here and special teams sucked this year. The pouch kickoff was the nail in the coffin vs Oregon last Saturday. If he doesn’t get 86’d he must have pics of Fisch that his wife wouldn’t like. Poo Poo is a weak link in the chain along with visor play calling.

Scholarships weren’t impacted until his second season

Gross needs to leave. Fucker can't even kick a pooch. If your kicker can't get the ball into the EZ on kickoff, you're not a fucking kicker.

Last year was one of the most enjoyable seasons of special teams I’ve ever watched. Big hits, big kicks, big returns. This year with a bulk of those guys back the unit was one of the worst since Lambo. Fuck PooPoo, he can LEAVE!!

Disagree on this. PaoPao was an incredible TE coach here. I was glad to have him return. Giving him STs was the problem. I'm very fine keeping him on staff.

It's pretty striking. The one thing that happened on ST last year was a couple fumbled returns. Otherwise yes it was an incredible unit.

People don't like his recruiting, but the TEs were always productive. Latu and DeGraaf were 2nd and 3rd string and for the most part played very well, especially in the pass game. Moore was a big loss blocking.

PaoPao is a good Xs and Os coach. His players get better. No doubt. My problem with him is that he can never seem to translate that to recruiting. Bryant and Otton were local. Sample wasn’t even recruited by PP at UW, he was going after that undersized kid Blakely from Idaho. Sample came over with Pete from Boise in the transition class. Dissley was recruited by Choate as a DT and moved over because of lack of depth which falls back on PaoPao because he was here under Sark and the depth issues were all his. Remember the class where PaoPao missed on everyone he offered and was shunned by Mason West in favor of Air Force just before signing day? Remember him taking a flyer on Jakob Kizer who came in damaged and played only a handful of snaps? When you coach at a top 15 program, have a HOF head coach, run an offense that features a TE and you can’t get any of your top seven choices in recruiting you suck. I was at the recruiting banquet when all the coaches spoke about the players they signed and PaoPao just sat in a corner eating because he signed NO ONE! He then didn’t get his contract extended. Even Pete’s patience had run thin. Even Derham fucking Cato pulled 4* Mark Redman out of California. Who has PaoPao ever pulled from the golden state? Good position coach, poor recruiter. Same as it ever was.

All this is true and well documented. I just don't care as much as I used to. If you consistently produce guys who perform at all conference level and move into the NFL it doesn't make that big of a difference to me how many stars they had coming in. I think there's enough of a sample size with PaoPao to say that our TEs will develop and produce at a high level while here (both as pass catchers and blockers).

Incidentally he got a 247 out of state 4 star in this class. And Mark Redman is pretty meh.

I've liked our tight ends over the past several years. NFL seems to as well

Never forget Derham Cato almost got Brock Bowers. Too bad Washington is too lib for his mom. I definitely would have taken Redman this year. Probably on par with Latu. I'll maintain losing Moore was awful. He was our best returning run blocker even if he got a holding call once a game.
Paopao's recruiting is super suspect until proven otherwise.
