He was great for the NBA objectively

He worked for the owners and they were happy

The players like Silver a lot better.

Seattle fucked themselves with their love affair with the Seattle Center

And having a shitty owner who sold us out

Yep Shultz and the City Council are the biggest villains here.

Stern was a major contributor to the problem though.

Fuck them all.

Stern showed what he could have done for Seattle when we? nearly stole the Kings. He didn't give a fuck in 2008 and it showed.

Fuck all these people that said he did so much for basketball.

College hoops hyped the hell out of magic vs bird which was great and the nba rode that story for a decade. Also just so happened to overlap with the explosion of the most iconic athlete of a generation in Michael Jordan taking over the sports world. Those 3 were must see tv. Nike marketed the shit out of mj and and the game while designing cool stuff that became mainstream. Basketball sucked miserably for years after Jordan retired and was a shit product and made a comeback in the last decade.

Stern has very little to do with that. Any given commissioner does what the owners want. It’s not as though he is some genius.

I am from sw Washington so fuck the Sonics but he did Seattle dirty which is fucking stupid to choose okc over a market like Seattle. They have subsidized the New Orleans franchise and saturated the league longer than the talent allows.

FTG.

TLDR version.

Magic, Bird, Jordan and Nike built faux sterns faux legacy

Don't forget subsidizing the WNBA all these years.

Stern has done plenty to hurt basketball.

Yep. Schultz is enemy #1 for selling the team. I bet he regrets that now. He could have taken some short term losses for bigger money later.

Anyone with any sense knew Bennett wanted to move the team.

The arena bullshit hasn’t been fixed since the Sonics left despite the “close calls.”

I got over the Sonics leaving a year or two after it happened. I don’t care one bit now that they are gone. I remember going to games their last few years and they did lack fan support. Everyone was suddenly a huge fan once they were gone.

They lacked fan support when Clay gutted the team and basically admitted he was moving them. Before then they were always in the top 2/3 in attendance.

I like to tell people to lose millions with their business. It's what I like to do.

He could have personally financed several arenas and still come out ahead after the teams appreciation over the past 10 years. Selling when he did was a shitty decision.
