At the Opening he put up good numbers:
6-4
200 (needs more, but has a good frame)
4.69 (which for a guy 6-4, 200 who probably doesn't run sprints in track is flying)
4.22 shuttle (really good)
36.0 powerball (I'm still trying to figure out what this means, but whatever)
33.6 vert (pretty good for a kid that size)
I'm into him.
Look at his hips, too thin
What is the lower bound that is still tolerable for you? 230? 240?
Idieally you want the BUCK to be around 245-260. SAM around 230-245. It is mostly about being able to set the edge first, then rushing the QB
Right, and Patu has one more year in high school, plus a redshirt year if he comes here. Should be enough tim to get up to about 230, which is enough to at least come off the bench.
As a sam sure, but I want a fucking buck. Channeling my inner passion
Right, but he could easily be 245 by the time he's a rJr., at which point he'd have to years to play as a starter, if everything goes right. He is a project for sure though. Obviously I'd like a more sure thing as well, but Patu at least would come here if we offered.
I have no faith in Kawasaki landing Thibodeaux, Pakola, Hicks or any of the other guys we've offered. Patu might be skinny, but he's more explosive and just straight up better at football than Legg and Trice, and we're probably not even getting Trice anyway.
That doesn't leave much. There aren't really a lot of underrated DEs on the west coast this year. There's a couple guys in NV that are pretty legit (Ma'ae and Heckard), but they don't even appear to be on our radar at this point.
As for Texas, Isuman-Hundley and Mowry have already commited to other schools, and Ellison and Mpagi could give to fucks about us. I'd like us to offer Sulaiman Kpaka since he's good and has no legit offers in the south, but he'll probably get them eventually. Or become a DT.
Either way, we don't have a lot of options. I'm mentally preparing myself for plan C at buck, and I can definitely stomach Patu. That doesn't mean I don't have some of the same concerns.
