“Oregon kids grow up hating Washington”

People forget that when Nike first wanted to brand a college football team's uniforms (ie make a decision that was solely about good business), they went with the flagship university of the Pacific Northwest, the University of Washington. People forget that.
People forget that because it’s false.
Oregon and Washington both began their sponsorship deals with Nike in 1995 after having been with Russell Athletic prior.
I see they have swooshes in images. I've still read that in a bunch of places, it was probably that the UW deal was technically the first one to be finalized.
The point however still stands. Washington was picked because it was a smart business decision. Flagship University of the PNW.
Oregon was about the now 86+ year old founder forcing them to.

Oregon kids born anywhere up until say 2000 hate Washington with a passion.

Washington kids born from say 1990 until now hate Oregon the same way.
it isn’t hard to figure out why.
Right now the rivalry is as healthy as it’s been since the late 90s/early 2000s and that’s great.
Oregon has lost 3 highly competitive games in a row. Can’t wait to see how the next 3-5 years unfold. Will be great for the region and the b1G10 conference, as I truly believe that only Michigan/tOSU will be a bigger ticket going forward.
True Washington fans the OG's were born in the 70's and very early 80's. Just in time to witness the greatness of DJ and a couple follow up games. GO DAWGS!

Born too late to enjoy and admire the legendary Sonny Sixkiller.
You Anti-Injun Bastards!

Whatever makes you feel better, but both schools signed their initial Nike deals in 1995. You can have January and I’ll take February of that year since it apparently means more to you. we were likely pre-occupied with the Rose Bowl at the time and you’d wrapped your season up in El Paso or whatever.

Zeroes fans still haven't realized that Nike is the National (albeit international) brand, not the Ducks. Without Nike Oregon is at best a regional NW Oregon brand.
this cracks me up every time I hear it. Who gives a fuck? They have Nike, so your bizarro world doesn’t exist.

Washington is the flagship university of this region, and always will be. And even Nike knows that.
You can go lose a rose bowl and pop off or whatever loser point you were trying to make was there.

"Having Nike" means what exactly? Going over-the-top with flashy, silly, childish transformer-like cosplay costumes instead of uniforms?
Take Nike, PLEASE. What serious person gives a fuck?
Amazing how flash and bling don't build winners, but cause more distractions and hype. Credit the UO Football program for its solid recruiting over the years and for the strength of its program.
But if a kid chooses a school based on garish superficial unis and helmets, then he's an idiot on several levels anyway.
