I think we can project Oregon easier than UW at the moment. Oregon has both offensive tackles returning and has an answer at QB. The biggest question now is having an answer for Franklin leaving.

I’ve been consistent since last offseason in my stance that UW is going to be incredible this year, but after that there are serious questions. And unfortunately Oregon is incredibly unlikely to get a shot at revenge. Oregon could rattle off 10 straight wins vs UW and if none of them occur in Indianapolis in the big ten title game with everything to play for (heisman, conf title, playoff berth), last Friday is going to still majorly sting for the entire decade. Any duck fan who denies that fact is a liar.

On the one hand, there are 81 threads about Penix being the absolute goat at UW, a generational QB, Heisman snub, etc. At least 19 threads and 1,000 comments about Rome being the best ever at UW. Fautanu getting first round grades. DJ is Gaskin tier. If you can hold those thoughts in your mind at the same time as the ridiculous notion that anybody suggesting UW will take a step back next season (step back from what I truly believe will be an NCG win on January 8th, remember) is some kind of huge slight to UW and its fans... well you have a special kind of brain that I envy.

If you can't see UW dropping off next season, you're a huge doog. Maybe that's only a drop-off from 15 wins to 10 thanks to DeBoer and some talented players returning, but Penix, Rome, Troy, and probably DJ aren't walking through that door in the spring.

Oregon and UW have been three points apart in three consecutive games. The difference has largely been hero play from a QB who will be gone (as well as hero play from DJ most recently). That's a lot of key contributors to replace and I don't think UW has the quality of depth that most top 5-10 teams have due to piss poor recruiting in the 21-22 high school classes. It's not inflammatory to say that UW is probably going to take a step back. It's going to take a portal miracle to be a top 10 team again in 2024. Even if it happens the lack of depth is going to be a little scary.
