OFFICIAL Indiana (IU) vs Miami - NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP GAME Thread

Cignetti convinced his JMU guys to trust him and get on the biggest ride of their lives, fuck all the other suitors including Miami with Mendoza. Cuban or no cuban, they are a large alum base that got it done similarly to us? with Odunze, Penix, etc.

Jedd seemingly did some halfway thing between built for life and getting paid and his Arizona core didn't buy into it.

That is no longer a debate.
Agree. Mendoza will burn in Cuban hell for it but he bought in and it worked out.

So did the refs.

That felt really one sided in terms of who was benefiting from "we're letting them play out there".

I'm happy that didn't cost the Hoosiers.
The wefs are hurting my twat. Help me, I'm a pussy.

The Canes made that one of the better natty games In recent memory when I expected a fairly easy Hoosier win, say 34-17. They look like they Ray Lewis Canes out there, Creep!
I've exercised some discipline to not think about the tight end who played matador on that punt block and how the game might have otherwise ended up. They played them tough and had a chance. Could have been better on 3rd down but Indiana's defense had a lot to do with that.

Here's another difference, and with all of my frustrations with Cristobal, I'm actually rather serious:

Mario: ready for playoffs
Lanning: not ready for playoffs

Mario did some important things at Oregon in terms of program wins. Lanning's resume, if I were a Duck, is a little mixed. Mario beat Petersen when UW had it going on. Lanning has not. That's a big deal. Lanning has had some nice in-season wins, but so did Cristobal. I still say the road win over that Buck team, and the way he did it, was one for the books. I'm not sure Lanning has that kind of win yet. Maybe I'm forgetting. Mario has the "you lost to who?" problem that Lanning doesn't seem to have, so that plays in Lanning's favor.

I'm not a big Mario fan anymore, and this little run hasn't changed that, but I think there's an argument that there is an element of Cristobal's resume that is better than Lanning's. Not to mention that Lanning inherited a fully functional program whereas Cristo has walked into two broken programs, particularly Miami where Diaz left a cancerous team culture and forced him to completely clean house.

Food for thought. It's easy to look at Lanning and think he's the better coach but it's not all that clear to me. Indiana is really good so there's no shame in losing to them, but Oregon was simply not ready to be there ... again. They have enough talent to make that a better fight than they did. Same with last year.
I don't disagree with anything here.

Oregon has been woefully unprepared in the playoffs each of the last 2 years, and 3 if counting the P12 CCG.

Mario had his guys focused last night. There's zero reason, on paper, Oregon couldn't have done at least as well as Miami against IU. It's absolutely coaching.

Can Dan significantly modify his prep? I don't know. But it needs to change.

Nope, since he was first hired I said UW needed to be back in the playoffs by year 3.

I will give a coach 3 years during a rebuild even in the portal era, so long as there is improvement, which there was.

The defense was more than able this year, it was the offense that wasnt and that is concerning.

Also - the UW schedule was not pillow soft, it was actually difficult and to say otherwise is lying.
That was a top 3 soft UW schedule in my lifetime. Possibly #1. There was nothing difficult about it whatsoever. It was all set up for an inflated win total for whoever was coach.

Agreed

Our “9 win season” was really a 7 or 8 win season in a different era, and should have been a 10 win season with a competent coaching job.

Nothing I’ve seen so far has me optimistic about the future under Jedd.

Yeah the non conference slate has definitely been soft as of late. UW has had murders rows in the past, which isnt really wise with modern football.

We do have a home and home with Tennessee coming up, would be great to sweep them. Not sure about other p4 ooc opponents and too lazy to look it up

Back in the world of two things can be true at once. Maybe not a murderer's row of a schedule but there is promise on the defensive side of the ball.
A bit of a long row to hoe on the offensive side of the ball.

And I'd say on Fisch, because there's no use in arguing that he should be fired because he hasn't been, that this year is make or break. Not natty or bust but definitely playoff at large or bust. If there is another Wisconsin game, tarmac him right there and then.

Gotta like his recruiting, though.

Recruiting includes keeping good players and getting portalistas, in addition to the high school players.

I would be willing to wager that less than half of the 2025 class will still be at UW this time next year.

Based on all of that, I disagree vehemently that Fisch is a good recruiter.

Reminds me of the Seinfeld episode where Jerry tells the rental car agent that she knows how to take reservations, but can’t keep them. An important piece of the puzzle.

Malachy Toney just entered the transfer portal after Miami made him famous.

Agree with Race. If the transfer portal is the bar of measurement, then they are all fucked.

And nobody can complain because they all do it and have it done to them. Hurricanes also lost a highly recruited safety who didn't play as a true freshman. I mean, the list of Miami players going out is almost twice as long as those coming in, and Cristobal is assuredly a good recruiter.

Buck and Duck have also lost a lot of dudes too.

These are different times and I'm not sure anybody has mastered it.
