I didn’t watch the game but reading about the run defense made me think Kent St was gashing the run D.

They ran for 147 yards on 39 rushes. 3.7 YPC

THE QB had 8 carries for 47 and the RBs gained exactly 100 on 31 carries for 3.2 YPC.

Stats obviously don’t tell the whole story but those are terrible especially considering last years team was giving up 4+ YPC.

They need to do a better job of spying on a running QB and making tackles. I wonder how many of those yards were after contact.

It seemed like a lot of the yards Kent State got on the ground were after contact.

Which can be spun into either a negative or a positive.

We will know more in 2 weeks

As a whole, it was OK. But they missed a lot of tackles in the back field and let the RB push the pile far long than the play should have gone. Many plays should have gone for 0 that went for 3-5 yards.

I would agree with this. I don’t think the stats are telling. We tackled like shit and got pushed backwards after contact frequently. The YPC looks solid on paper, but the run D looked pretty weak. A more physical line with better backs will push our stool in.
 
Things I'm excited to see:

D-line look physically dominate

Safeties making hits on the ball carrier

Centre

A running back make a player miss

Odunze and McMillan
