OC position

Monken wouldn’t be bad. He had a really good offense in 2915[/b] as the head coach of Southern Miss. They shredded us in that game.

Nick Chubb is right at the top of rushing leaders, so his run game is good too.

He would definitely be a big upgrade considering his history. He’s also been OK State’s OC when they were good with Weeden and Justin Blackmon.

Once Eason left, the importance of getting the OC hire correct definitely became a bit more important, glad to see Jimmy recognizes that and is taking the time to get it as right as he can. No real benefit now to not doing your due diligence.

Hiring one to appease Eason would have been a mistake anyways. Eason would only be here one more year and he’s never shown to be anything great as a college QB. You can spin it any way you want but that’s a fact. I don’t hate talent but I like results and winning better.

There should be no hurry at all unless Jimmy is worried that his guy will get scooped up by someone else. Then of course, have some urgency.

I love waiting for the NFL dominoes to fall and having a wide range of candidates to choose from. Most the names so far have been underwhelming but I also realize there is no sure thing and it will be a fired coach or a guy getting a big promotion.
 
Jimmy can win 10 games with that defense alone, as long as the offense is ball control and not running trick plays or turning it over
Either QB should be serviceable enough to get first downs. They have a stable of backs, and even two playmakers with Salvon and Columbian

Yep, on paper our offense is probably #1 in the pac as well. You have a stable of 3 4* qbs to pick from, one of the top TEs in the league, a WR stable with like 7 4* recruits, and an o line where 3rd and 4th year players should be filling in the spots. If Ahmed returns, you've got one of the top returning RBs. Theres no reason our offense cant be just as strong as our defense

We don’t have to be the best, although we should be right there. This year, we massively underachieved on offense. OL should have been better, Skinny should have been better. By mid season we weren’t playing Baccallia nearly as much and Fuller was playing less too and we still sucked.

It was broken. It wasn’t a talent issue. Our coaching sucks. I have very little faith in Huff coaching wise. Adams has as bad of a first year a coach can have.

I hope it’s just because of Pete and his stubbornness with his offense, but I have my doubts.
 
OL coach and WR mean very little in the scheme of things. It's all on CP.

When have you heard of a team that hired a better WR coach and got dramatically better on offense? Never. All WR coaches do the same shit. Some just coach actually good WRs.

Guy gets injured every other game.

Hard to have a good offense when your QB is constantly leaving the field. Example: the Holiday Bowl.

Considering where LSU's offense is now compared to where it had been so stagnant for years in the past, Jimmy needs to follow that blueprint and pluck someone out of the NFL.

Absolutely idiotic post. Disagree about OL coach. That’s an important role and I would much rather have a great OL coach than an average one.

We got drastically better with Bush Hamdan as our WR coach. Ross came back and was much improved and it was night and day with Pettis. I don’t think it was all because of him, but it helped having him instead of Pease.

They do the same shit, but the coach needs to get his guys assignment sound, playing with confidence, focused, always seeking to improve, etc.

Teachers mostly teach the same thing. History is history, but some teach it better than others.

The only thing you are right about is that it is all on CP. he does need to hire good coaches and that’s very debatable at this point.

On the one hand I think this demonstrates that Eason is overrated even by Lake.

OTOH I like that Lake is trying to do everything to win in 2020 and not take three years to until winning matters.

Originally I would have agreed with this but I learned recently from "Sub K" on the BDTW podcast that the o line performance has nothing to do with the o line coach as long as he is recruiting well. In this case, poor o line performance is the fault of the running back coach and offensive coordinator. If, however, the o line coach is deemed a poor recruiter, then any deficiencies in o line production fall at his feet

Adrian fucking Clemm. Unless you’re getting all 5 star guys, I would argue that coaching is more important because most of these guys are at a similar level on talent and it’s coaching that determines whether they make it or not.

Terrible response, except for the very end. John Ross was good because he was healthy for a full year, had a great defense, a decent QB, a superb TB, and plenty of nice scoring opportunities. A good WR coach, in the sense that they can communicate effectively with kids, is better than a terrible one, for sure.

But the tone starts at the top. Adams was not in complete control of the WR rotations this year, for instance, it was Pete's stupid system and seniority principles that got everyone constipated.

Same goes for OL in my opinion. Chip Kelly's system at Oregon was largely fool-proof not because of a great OL coach, but because the system was schemed and drilled to perfection at the top.

John Ross could basically catch a screen or run a go route prior to his jr year. He was a pretty complete college wr by his jr year.

How would you ever hold a coach accountable if what you said was the case?
