Obama: 'I would not let my son play pro football'

Stupid cheap shot, Derek. One of my good friends played on the defensive line at West Virginia University, and is a die hard republican. We argue over politics frequently. His son is now 3 years old and my friend has vowed that his son will NOT play football.

The head injuries have impacted a lot of peoples' thinking. I'm not saying that Obama or my friend are right, but you're not-so-subtle jab is poorly thought out.

All I did was a post a link of a news story. You're projecting and overreacting as usual.

Yah, right. Of the tens-of-thousands of news stories you could link on countless topics from countless news sources, you posted this one just for the heck of it. You weren't trying to make a point. All you "did was post a link to a news story."

Do you think people are stupid enough to believe that?

Independent of any other views in this thread... I agree - that was a super Kim-like response.

I don't like Obama and don't support most of what he stands for. I have never made any bones about it. Water is wet.

We get it. An "I irrationally hate our black president" board would be a great place to warehouse all these political posts that have nothing to do with husky football.

POTY!

Since this is your board, can we expect that you're not trolling for kudos or comments on what you don't like or won't support? Water is wet only so long as there's enough of it for all.

This is such bullshit. Another liberal crisis over nothing. Football WAS a dangerous sport 100 years ago, in the days of leather helmets and the Flying Wedge. Concussions are at an all time low. Just like everything else, liberals use anecdotes instead of statistics. That is so much bullshit.

1.5 million men and boys play football every year, (15 million per decade). Here are the statistics.

Deaths caused directly by football

Years Sandlot High school College Pro/semi-pro
1931–69 150 428 63 74
1970–79 15 119 12 1
1980–89 7 59 5 0
1990–99 1 33 5 0
2000–09 5 35 1 3
2010–12 2 4 3 2

Reported concussion rate per 10,000 athletic exposures (high school)

Sport Boys Girls
American football 11.2 N/A
Lacrosse 6.9 5.2
Soccer 4.2 6.7
Wrestling 6.2 N/A
Basketball 2.8 5.6
Field hockey N/A 4.2
Baseball/Softball 1.2 1.6

Statistically, football has never been safer. Could it be safer still? Certainly, but the bullshit hysteria by soccer-moms and jackass presidents is ridiculous. Soccer has concussions. Girls Basketball looks dangerous. Let's just stop playing sports all-together and never leave the house.
