Oahu

I’ll be visiting Oahu for the first time in February. What are some great restaurants, bars, lesser known attractions, etc. worth seeing for a first timer? I’ll be staying in Waikiki and will have a rental car. Since I will only be there for a few days before heading off to another island, I am trying to avoid tours and long time sucking events, so I’ll be skipping luaus, snorkeling, Dole Plantation, and Pearl Harbor.

My first full day I plan on driving counterclockwise around the island and visit Hanauma Bay, Lanikai Beach, Kailua, and the north shore. Any cool spots along this route would be appreciated too.

Drive over to Kailua. Kailua Beach is nice and Lani Kai beach is even better but go early. Parking is limited. North shore is worth a day as well.

There's a good night market with lots and food stalls (if it's running) in Kailua as well. Island Snow for the coldest shave ice in town.

Not seeing the Pearl Harbor Memorial is a huge mistake. Don't be a dumbass.

Also there are coastal artillery batteries there (I forget where I was there decades ago). Nice hikes to get up to them and killer views.

Pearl harbour only reason to go Oahu. They place is a dump and sucks balls. Why are you wasting your time and money?

Anyway..if you insist on wasting your money as a cliche Hawaii tourist, Honolulu Beerwerks has an all you can eat spare ribs and a ride to diamond head in a rickshaw special for $20. In comes with Mac salad and all the fixins.

Side Street Inn near Ala Moana…definitely off the tourist map, in a little neighborhood of machine shops and strip clubs. I go there at least once every trip. Great grub, decent prices (for HI). The pork chops are phenomenal (and I’m not a pork chop guy), coldest beer in town…

Load up on Town&Country Surf shop T-shirts and be super cool. Jam out to the east end of the island and go to Makapu beach. Less crowded. Unsure if the bus still goes out there.

Moose mcGillicuddys was always cool and has been there for 35+ years.

R.I.P. Waikiki location. They are still kickin on Maui though.
That blows. I remember being in there June 24,1990 and they were celebrating Christmas Eve six months early. There was a dude in a Santa suit danicing around. And my buddies will never forget this hottie in a peach colored dress dancing. Just phenomenal.

Pearl Harbor is now a go. I have a rental car, so that greatly cuts the time and price investment.

Honolulu Beerworks is a go too. Brewery with growlers, that’s a magnet for me. Rickshaw not so much. I’ve got a rental car.
