Nick Herbig, 4* 2020 OLB, Honolulu (St. Louis), HI (Offered 9/27/18)

The cb was put in by a Wisconsin homer with a 60% correct-pick rate. He wrote an article called "Crystal Balls" for the Wisconsin site and CB'd a bunch of guys to Wiscy.

I wouldn't put much stock into it.

If we don’t get him to visit after this upcoming one to Wisconsin that’s when I will worry. Just get him up to Seattle afterwards.
 
Looking like we won't know if Herbig is planning a visit until after his visit to Wisconsin. If he doesn't commit there after/during his visit I like our chances. Really disappointing that I'm worried about Wisconsin at any point this offseason. At the end of the day we should get him, every thing should be on our side outside of the man recruiting him.

1. If I was smart enough to go to UDUB I wouldn't be on this board

2. If you don't think I got the joke of both their initials being UW and raising you by throwing in a white school with awful recruiting and a low floor because of good coaching, THEN WHOOOOOSH
 
Say we get Herbig and McDonald, do they both end up sticking at SAM? If Sawyer sticks at WR are getting any true MIKE or WILL in this class? This LB class is odd.

Herbig is literally the only ILB they're recruiting right now. If they get him, that's it. They took FIVE ILB's last class if you include Drew Fowler who's a scholarship quality walk on. I thought at least Phonzo would be an outside guy but he's cut weight down to 235 and all indications are he's still an ILB for UW. ILB is deep right now and 2021 is a way better ILB class. Even if they don't get Herbig, it's not a big deal. They don't need to take an ILB in this class at all and only will take a guy if they think he is special like Herbig.

McDonald is now the prime target at SAM after they whiffed on the previous prime target Botelho. Herbig is a good SAM as well and can flip between inside and outside in college and excel at both but is primarily being recruited as an inside guy right now.

That makes a lot of sense and you have to add Ulofoshio who might work his way into a scholarship by 2020. Herbig is a tremendous player. Gregory literally needs to get him and some specialist and he's good, make it happen.

Part of the reason they likely won't take a fallback option is the ILB class next year. Ethan Calvert and Keith Brown are pretty vocal about us already.

Throw in Tufaga and Ho'ohuli from St. Louis HS that are rated as top 100 guys. Also add Latu and maybe Simon (Don't know his true position). It always made sense to be ultra selective for 2020 with 2021 being so deep.

To no one's surprise the visit "knocked it out of the park". He doesn't have anything else planned and listed UW, UCLA and Virginia as the schools he is strongly considering. Wants to make a final decision before the start of his high school season.

I'm surprised he doesn't have better schools after him. Outside of UW it's Wisconsin, UCLA, and Virginia? That's weird. He's really good, but I think UW began to cool on him the more the 2021 ILB board began to get worked out during the Spring evaluation period. I don't think UW will take an ILB this class. I think that scholarship will go to a position that's more of a need in this class. I think by not taking Herbig in this class, UW could take up to four 2021 ILB's and the talent available to them is mouth watering.

Wellington and Manu. But they have already been replaced by overloading at ILB in the previous class.

You take zero this class and then four next class and split them up into two classes by redshirting half of them and playing half of them on special teams all year. They have to space out the depth chart so that the next ILB's that come in have some separation from the big 2019 haul for obvious competitive reasons.
