I'm not a Deion apologist by any means - the faux Baptist Church minister routine that he and Ray Lewis and others do with the rhyming and shit wears thin on me pretty quickly. I don't need a wise, all-knowing ex-football player to explain to me morality and the meaning of life. It's annoying and he's annoying.
But, I call a thing what it is when I see it. When he was first hired, people almost unanimously were saying it was a splash hire with no substance and not deserved and that he would be among the most incompetent coaches in D1 history. There were people here who thought he'd legitimately struggle to win a game.
I thought his body of work at Jackson State told a different story and, yes, recruiting is part of coaching and he did that while he could. He's not a great coach by any means but he's better than many of the stiffs who've coached at Colorado and elsewhere. He's also done some decent things, like give Jackson State a fair amount of money and often dealt with resources shortfalls with things like travel, equipment, etc. with his own dollars.
The older I get, the more and more I realize that most people are not just one monolithic thing. It's more fun to talk about them like they are especially when their personalities rub us the wrong way, just like jjhusky used to rub
@iDawg the wrong way back on Dawgman (but that's another story).
Anyway, yes, I can't see Sanders being there much longer, especially if NIL doesn't get dialed back and/or Colorado doesn't discover a billionaire alumnus who suddenly cares about the program. Warren Sapp is hanging around but he's broke as fuck so he can't help. Plus, Neon Deion is not a healthy person anymore and that will surely weigh on his mind.
