National Champion, mediocre to bad defense

I don't think many here are dooging so hard as to predict a national championship this year.

But the real thought of a potential playoff had me thinking... when was the last time a mediocre to bad defense won the whole thing? I believe it has been more than 25 years.

Maybe the better measure is AVERAGE defense. Could probably put some of the USC national champs in that category or close to it. Potentially Florida in the mid-90's.
Perhaps the better question is, can the Huskies get to average on that side of the ball?!

LSU a couple years ago was a statistically average defense.

This is what the Beta Rank episode pretty much said:

UW pass defense was like bottom 5 teams in power 5. Have to at least be average. Pass rush shouldn't be an issue.

They should still lean on Penix.

Long term they need to be better than 35 national average in recruiting.
