I found the book oddly uncompelling. Dunno how they'll make the movie what the book wasn't, especially since it's so rare that the movie turns out to be better than the book.

Huh. I am surprised to hear this.

I found it to be very compelling and I had bought it right after release expecting to be let down somewhat.

Nazis make every story and/or movie better. This is why Indiana Jones 1.0 and 2.0 are better. NOCs about Lou Gellerman's 1958 crew that beat the Soviets in Leningrad because no Nazis.

I just figure that they'll tell a story that's already been told so many times over.

As for uncompelling, there was just a sense of inevitability to the whole book that yeah, OK, they win here, then they win there, they have trouble finding their magical stroke, they win again, win in Berlin yippee. My favorite parts of the book were the bits about Pocock and boat innovation.

I was more into the Depression era history and stuff like Pocock's innovation than the actual race narratives. Joe Rantz had a damn interesting life story. Dude helped build Grand Coulee and beat Nazis.
