My dad's Jim Owens story

My dad would have turned 87 this past Sunday. This random Jim Owens story popped into my head. My dad was not a great storyteller by any means. But years ago he told me a story of the Huskies clinching a Rose Bowl berth for the first time since World War II. Seattle was absolutely on fire with excitement. (There were no pro teams back then).

There was a pep rally I believe in Hec Ed. My dad was in a long line to get in and the line was moving slowly. When he got to the door, none other than Jim Owens was there to shake every person's hand that walked in. "That was a pretty neat deal," dad said.

Dad and his frat brothers drove down to Pasadena to watch UW crush Baze's Wisconsin Badgers 44-8.

Yes, file this under cool story, bro

My father would be 89. Theknowledge is the epitome of an oops baby. He loved Jim Owens as well and especially the 59 and 60 Huskies. I gre up with stories if them and the 77 team as a kid. He never went to UW but the Huskies were a such huge deal to all the sports fans of the period. As the pro teams came in he rooted for them but the UW was and always would be his favorite.

Seattle was better when there were only UW sports and tuff liberals.

You had me at "There were no pro teams back then"

I know the landscape in Boys In The Boat is supposed to make you melancholy, but I could probably jerk it to the fact that there's no Lumen/TMobile/ClimatePlunge in those shots.
