The Italians were upset with the last one for pushing open borders that is for sure. The Pope behind a walled fortress, the Italians had to live with it outside the walls. Progressivism/Liberalism doesn't work no matter what organization slaves to it.
I think it is time to let Priests marry and let women be Priests. Every time I bring that up in front of an older Catholic crowd, they think I am the progressive one. I guess it's all relative.
When I was a kid, it was unacceptable to question the Pope. It isn't that way anymore as the modern-day Pope's have varied widely in perspective and revealed that they are human and think independently on certain issues. While the Pope is the Pope and he worked his butt off, was supremely dedicated to his faith, and made sacrifices none on this board could ever dream of, he is a man and men are flawed. The last Pope was too liberal, in my opinion, on a lot of issues and not enough on others. It is a nuanced leadership position and there is no way to make all happy all the time.

Quite the dilemma. If you are a gay alter boy what do you do with a lesbian priest? The Church will keep losing members to the conservative protestant churches. I stopped attending either Lutheran or Presbyterian churches as the pastors were hard left. The Catholic priest hood is much more comfortable kowtowing to a Muslim Iman than breaking bread with a Pentecostal minister. Islam > Trump.
My family left the Presbyterian church when the pastor started preaching about Angela Davis (Marxist). One of the Throbber's two dads was an elder. He said fuck this.
