More (or same) receptions than John Ross last year

I'm not saying John Ross won't be missed (don't twist)....as a deep threat his injury is a killer but he wasn't catching the ball much.

Discuss.

Pettis is going to have a huge year imo

Pettis is a good player, but I don't see him having a huge year. Not with these QB's and OL and Mickens being the primary recipient of the bubble screens.

Does anyone know if this year they will plan on having "blocking" for the bubble screen plays. I realize this is a complex play and has been a work in progress since the Willingham years but I have noticed that other teams like Oregon and Arizona have tended to use "blocking" on bubble screens to prevent the receiver from being tackled immediately after catching the ball. You see, the way this works is another player who will not be catching the ball goes out in front of the receiver and "blocks" the defending player from tackling him. Obviously our athletes are not up to par with some of these other teams but has anyone heard any rumblings about possibly utilizing "blocking" this year with our bubble screens?

I thought that was Kasen's primary responsibility last year.

Doesn't matter if we had Rice, moss, and Largent as our receiving core when we don't have a Qb. Peterlips can't coach Sarkys recruits. Meanwhile USC and Kessler will be butt fucking the competition to the tempo of fight on. Better get in line Freelove ; ))))

I am really hopeful that we see success out of the TE position. Perkins is solid and can move around a little bit and do some H-back stuff. Daniels should be used almost like a Jimmy Graham type by lining up off the ball most of the time. Ajamu might be the most well rounded at 6-5 255 he has the sand in the pants to block and has some wiggle to slip out and be a safety valve. Sample is right there with Ajamu. Should see lots of 2 and even 3 (if you count Daniels lining up as a wideout) TE sets. If this develops it will really help the dreckfest at QB.

Has anyone ever run a HUNH spread with 2 or 3 TEs always on the field? Gus Malzahn seems to always have a TE and H-back in every play.

Of the players shown in the post, how many can make a defense respect them like Ross can? You think defenses stacked the box last year, holy fuck it will be tough with no legitimate deep threat established.

But how many snaps did Ross play at WR once the Pac-12 season started? Ross didn't stretch defenses last year because he hardly played WR.

Either Lenius at 6'5" will be the deep-threat (for jump balls) or Marvin Hall will be the speed threat (ran a third fastest forty at 4.45 forty and had 5th highest vert on team).

Neither are ideal (though I'm bullish overall on Lenius) but it is what it is. Passing Game Guru Steve Sarkisian was thought to have left us talent and depth at QB and WR but both are in question and he's only been gone 1 season (though CP has worked to bring in Browning and Magna Carta at QB and Pettis, Lenius, Renfro, McClatcher, etc etc at WR).

Isn't that what I said "as a deep threat his injury is a killer."

MiLes couldn't throw it 39 yards anyways so guys could have been wide open for all we know

Who had the most receptions on the team? Mickens? Yeah no one was game planning for his dumbass.

Ross didn't even have a set position yet he affected games more than any other offensive player. That is going to hurt badly. His value has nothing to do with receptions. If the team is going to surprise it's not going to be through the air. Pettis and Lenius could be nice players but they won't be game breakers. Not this year anyways.

Now more than ever before, the over/under is 5.

This thread has made me think our passing game will be even worse this year. Our wr's suck. Our qb's are worse. Our oline sucks. The season is over.

WR's dont suck. Just missing a legit #1 guy.

Mickens stepped it up at the end of the year and has turned the corner. Pettis and Lenius are only going to get better. Ross is a huge loss more so for special teams.

Hate to keep bringing up String but that kind of guy is exactly what this WR group is missing.

In the bowl game mickens was motivated. He also played well against Oregon state, a team with possibly the slowest linebackers in the conference; I can't remember any other game last year I was impressed with him. The players coming in at his position are most likely more talented than him anyways.

Agree with everything else.

Pettis is okay and mickens is okay but neither are good. Nobody else on the team has done anything to warrant a mention.

Neither of those guys have shown to be good, blockers either. Not impressed. I would say we are way below average for a team with a lot of 3 and 4 wr sets.
