Like his team's, Kessler’s résumé is imperfect. The numbers say Kessler produced one of the best years a USC quarterback has ever had in 2014 -- 39 touchdowns, just five interceptions -- but he’s as aware as anyone that he and the offense feasted on the weak and struggled against their best foes. Kessler tossed four touchdowns and three picks against four teams that finished ranked, averaging nearly two yards less per attempt. Most notably, Kessler has not played well in two meetings against archrival UCLA, which probably has no interest in yielding its newfound status as the No. 1 football program in Los Angeles.

Kessler doesn’t hide from the criticism of skeptics who note his faltering in big games, and his coach, Steve Sarkisian, isn’t against noting it either.

"The big thing for Cody is, how does he play at his best at the biggest moments?" Sarkisian said. "That’s something that, if you really want to leave a legacy, that’s what you do. You’re at your best at the biggest moments."

In a 2014 season of tight Pac-12 matchups, USC went 4-3 in games decided by eight points or fewer

"The biggest thing we’ve emphasized is finishing games," Kessler said. "Everyone saw it. We lost the Arizona State game on a Hail Mary. The Utah game we lost on the last play. If we finish those games, 9-4 turns into 11-2."

Your teams don't know how to finish games, because you let them leave practice early if they hit the crossbar or some shit like that.

love how Sark is yapping about Kessler stepping up in the big shiny moments, yet the losses referenced were when Kessler is on the bench and are literally a symptom of how Sark's teams don't put in the hard work and live on the "go out there and rip it" strategy. fuck that guy.

It's what Seven did as a player ...

It's what Seven does as a coach ...

I wonder what else he doesn't finish in

The 11-2 argument is bullshit. They just as easily could have gone 7-6 if Stanford and Arizona didn't fuck it up. Karma evened out for them last year.

Why do you hate @Auburndawg (RIP?) logic?

This argument is brought up any time a team has some close losses, but they always have an equal amount of close wins they pulled out of their asses. Evidently in Sark world it doesn't go both ways.

I know he finishes in Joey's waitresses, pretty fast too.

If we're going to bash finishing fast, I'm out.

This is one of the reasons why QB metrics aren't so cut and dry anymore, especially in CFB where the talent discrepancies are greater than in the NFL.

Who cares if a QB puts up great numbers if the team is average? Not saying USC was average last year but they had some great talent in 2014 (and still do).

Beyond USC, a 66.6% completion rate and an TD to INT ratio of 17 to 4 for a QB looks great on paper right? But when you watch that in person, it seems like another world.
