I have no idea who this guy is but I already know he will be fired within 3 years. As Uncle Colin always says, you NEVER hire the old trusty assistant because he's put in his time and "earned" it. It never works out and just causes a mess. Lambo. Gilby. Larry Coker. John McLaren. Bill Stewart. Etc.
And hiring an up and coming assistant from within is a completely different story, a la Chip Kelly, Jimbo Fisher.

The thing is that Odom is in category 2 not category 1.
He just turned 39 years old. Former high school head coach. Pinkel gave him his first job in college football but he left to Memphis for 6 years rising to become DC under Fuente (also says a lot to me that Fuente promoted him from safeties coach instead of bringing in his own guy.) Just came back to Mizzou this past year where he headed a vicious defense. They were UW east except with a better defense and worse offense.
For real. If it's a big school with legitimate title hopes, Pelini would be a bad choice. He's easily good enough to coach for a middle tier team though.
