mindfucky paradox: the Taj Davis hypothetical

Just saw where Taj might be done with Cal but still have one year of elegibility as a grad transfer.

"But fuck you sinceredawg, we're low on WR scholarships." you might say.

But what if you bring in Taj as a walk on - so no he doesn't take up one of our 85 rides, but you can still compensate him beyond his normal value through NIL - making a scholarship irrelevant.

Let's call this the NIL stockpiling loophole. Let's call this good legal work.

"Let's hook up sinceredawg with a complimentary pair of Karen Ramming's underpants." you now say.

Does anyone know what the story was? I assume it was a both parties were good with moving on last year but certainly feels like he could have had fun on this team and gotten reps at the #5/6 spot.

Assume it was more playing time and being closer to family

Gonna guess there's a stipulation somewhere that you have to be on scholarship to receive NIL. Otherwise it's full blown wild west out there. Maybe it is anyway.

Scholarships are irrelevant now. Mere symbols. Everyone can be a well-paid walkon.

I'm pretty sure there are restrictions that apply to walk-ons that don't apply to guys on scholarship -- such as the number of pre-season practices the NCAA allows them to attend (preferred walk ons are allowed more than regular walk ons and there is probably a limit as to how many can be preferred) , how many can travel to games, etc.

Otherwise the super wealthy schools would have 200 guys on their roster now via NIL.
