The US is the most asymmetrically tariffed nation on earth. We were promised by the experts this would make goods cheaper. Instead it's mostly depressed wages while the elites have captured the majority of profits from cost savings on labor. All while performing rent seeking using the government.
I'm very pro free trade. We are 1,000 miles away from that right now.
Targeted tariffs and bilateral negotiating makes sense when you are the 800lb gorilla in the room.

Long term sure... but when prices go up you will lose in 26

If we put the tarrifs that Trump wants on, 40% China and 10% rest of the world it amounts to 500 billion... yeah that will fund the government... oh plus they just raise prices so you get to pay for it... in 2024 tarrifs don't work.

It makes them build factories here to sell all those goods. Ask the big American auto maker that just canceled their Mexico plant and are building it to Detroit now IIRC because Trump was going to slap tariffs in Mexican made cars. Tarrifs force that or they forgo the U.S. market.

No comment on our total reliance on the chicoms for our pharmaceuticals and how to fix that.
