Was just pointing out that Helfrich was the coach who found Mariota, not Kelly. At one point we had both Mariota and Manziel committed so Helfs (Oregons) ability to find quality quarterbacks is pretty good. Of course Oregon won't be contending for the national championship every year. Outside of Alabama no one can sustain that level of success, but I have no doubts Oregon will continue to contend for the Pac-12 championship most years, even once Mariota leaves.

While I don't think that Peterson is the goddly coach you all had hoped, getting rid of Sark will = at lest 2-3 wins a season. Sark is a special needs coach and I'm still lol'ing at USC for hiring the bumbling idiot.

Helfrich and Coker are different. This isnt Chip's roster. Coker took over a returning juggernaut. Other than Fife not being better than Harrington Oregon always comes up with a QB. Mariota is a system QB. Maybe the best ever but not irreplaceable. Rogers replaced Farve and Young replaced Montana.

Helfrich has proved a lot this year. Petersen hasn't. But AZ is also right in that no one was turning uw in one year.

Petersen has to do something next year to give us hope. Like finding a fucking QB that can play. And actually changing the loser culture even if they lose 4 or 5 games again

If you look at another similar rebuild at Texas, you can see Strong having done a 180 with the defense and cut tons of dead wood even if the team still has a ways to go. UW looks mentally weak, the QB development was atrocious. I find it hard to believe there isn't one serviceable D-1A QB on that roster.

No. Rich Rod took over a fucking awful West Virginia program and had them in a BCS bowl very quickly. They're basically back to dreck now with the occasional big win. Arizona went from awful to dreck with the occasional big win under the Wrong Stoops. Insert Rich Rod and they are in a BCS bowl after three years.

Rich Rod is the best coach in the conference because he is. Slingblade took over a program going 1,0000mph in the right direction and Peterman was just a cog in the already well oiled machine. Shaw took over a program steam rolling in the right direction. Rich Rod has taken garbage programs to BCS Bowls in a short time twice. No one has even close to that kind of resume in the conference.

When you don't need to fundraise or work very hard at recruiting, or work to get kids to believe in what you are doing you can just focus on being a football coach which means you don't need the entire package like an Urban Meyer to win.

Peterson is a great {rip} WAC coach, an above average Mtn West Coach, and appears to be over his head in the Pac 12. Time will tell.

But this team had 10 win talent with that schedule and he crashed it into the wall with 6 losses.

Rich Rod is the best coach in the conference because he is. Slingblade took over a program going 1,0000mph in the right direction and Peterman was just a cog in the already well oiled machine. Shaw took over a program steam rolling in the right direction. Rich Rod has taken garbage programs to BCS Bowls in a short time twice. No one has even close to that kind of resume in the conference.

When you don't need to fundraise or work very hard at recruiting, or work to get kids to believe in what you are doing you can just focus on being a football coach which means you don't need the entire package like an Urban Meyer to win.

Richrod's a good coach, but 2011 was kind of an anomaly/Byrne throwaway. AZ was a 6-9 win team from 2007-2010. Stoops gets grief, but he cleaned up Mackodick's garbage.

He also worked over the Big Least when Miami was fading, then out of it. He was beating up Temple, UConn, S. Florida, bad Syracuse, and ordinary Pitt teams.

Then there was the 3-9 season at Michigan.

I think he's one of several good coaches right now. Nobody has stood out as great yet.
