Outdoor high school sports cleared to begin in Los Angeles, Orange counties (link)

The California Department of Public Health released its weekly coronavirus report Tuesday, and those counties where the adjusted daily case rate had reached 14.0 or less per 100,000 are cleared to allow outdoor sports to begin Friday under the youth sports update released last week.

Now it’s up to individual schools, districts and counties to decide what sports to allow. For football and water polo, weekly testing of athletes and coaches is required, with results made available within 24 hours of playing in a game.

Orange and Los Angeles counties are included in the group of counties that met the threshold this week. Football games can start March 11-13 (there are 14 days of mandatory practice before games can start). Likely to be a 5-6 game schedule. CIF already announced no playoffs.

Next door neighbor kid is a junior, plays ILB, and has at least FCS talent from the schools talking to him. They started practice this week and other than some of the seniors, none of them want to play because they all want to be healthy for real football in the fall. They are playing solely for the seniors.
