Techers should make more but we have far too many admin positions for them. When i went to grade and High school they had a principal and a vice principal. No other supervisor positions in grade school. High school may have a couple vice principals. Now they have a supervisor for every three teachers. My grade school had 6-700 kids. high school 2,600. That is a shitload of supervisors now that don't teach at all......
Teachers union pushed for more spot and supervisors for promotional positions. Somewhere to advance to. Well how about we dump all that shit and pay them more? But again were talking about local and state taxpayers outside the district are not paying and the state has nothing to do with it other than the retirement system.
One year Demonrat governor of Kalifornia swiped 44 billion from my police pension fund to balance the state budget. When a republican governor was in next he paid it back and the demonrats were lived scream and gnashing of teeth ensued. Threats the usual bullshit. A ballot measure voted in by the voters now prevents a governor from stealing from the pension fund again.

I should say they could make more. Performance based pay scale would change the game in teaching. They'd have the money by dumping the massive supervisory load. I also say schools should be a choice. Let parents take their tax money to the school of their choice. Parents would have control back. Lefties could flock to a socialist paradise school while normal people get a good education.
And in most places they deserve more.
