Matteo Mele, 4* OT, Tucson (Salpointe), AZ (COMMITTED 6/26)

This is massive news for many reasons. We need good OT's badly. Mele is probably my top guy on our board at OT. It also means that Huff might actually be good at recruiting.

We needed to get Mele on board ASAP because he was very close to getting offers from everyone. He will blow up his senior year and now that we have him committed it'll be tougher to pull him away.

There's a story on Roof's site claiming that UW leads for Curne but I can't find anything anywhere else to back that up. I don't know if he has even visited. The only stories on scout about him are from the Arkansas site and the Utah site.

That would be a great class for us regardless. Mele would be good in any class. That's why I was so happy to get him on board because he's one of the few guys out west this year that has that high end potential.
 
Ok, so I was thinking why this is such a big deal and looked back all the way through the classes form 2009-2016...

In that time span there has been just 3 OL we have gotten from out of state where we faced actual competition for their services.

Erik Kohler 2010
Dane Crane 2012
Luke Wattenberg 2016

And we know we got shit a lot of years before that.

Losing Eletise was a blessing. Nick Harris got an offer right after Eletise committed to AZ. Abundance would be best, but Nick Harris will be an all conference player.

I like Harris but he was outmatched at times last year. Would have LOVED to see eletise develop under this staff and what Socha could have done with him in the weight room. Plus we need more islanders on this team... I believe we only have 3 or 4.
