Mariota to struggle in the NFL?

Yeah it was easy to hate Mastoli and D. Thomas but Mariota is a good kid.

I'm sure Kawasaki, Chode, and Jimmy Lake were watching tOSU for keys on how to pummel the Dook System in the future. Gotta get more and better horses though, 2 to 3 deep at each level of the D.

It's too bad the strength of our D will probably be the secondary first and then the LB corp since the DL is being entirely rebuilt. I like Qualls at NT and Mathis at DE but the DT position could be a problem (Dissly or Tupou) and the depth is unknown.

His best attribute is finding open receivers on the run. If he can find a way to remain mobile without getting banged up everytime an NFL lineman drives his shoulder into the ground (lol) he could be a decent QB. All stars point to him flaming out though - He'll be drafted in the top 2 which means he will be going to a shit organization with no offensive line to give him time in the pocket.

He seems like a great kid, humble and competitive. I'm glad he won the Heisman, but the truth is he's a system quarterback playing in a league that doesn't play competitive defense. He'll get destroyed in the NFL.

Quality depth really is the key for the Huskies and not just on defense. Sark left a strikingly shallow team. Praise be PatHadenFS. That has left a lot of opportunity for young players, it's just up to Peterman and co. to get them up to speed quickly and finish washing the Sark stench off the program.

I'm 81% sure that Matt Leinart stayed for his 5th year because he was able to conveniently mask the fact that he needed some sort of surgery (knee I think) which would have been discovered at combine physicals and affected his draft status with a bunch of "rah, rah, staying in skool is awesome!" crap. Just ask Matt Barkley or Jake Lockner about the financial wisdom of waiting an extra year to enter the draft when perfectly healthy.

It turns out that the "hang out a year and fuck coeds" part of Matt's plan ended up working out a little too well, just ask Blake Griffin

I don't see Mariota failing. He may not be a star, but he has too much talent and too good of work ethic to completely fail. At minimum he will be an above average QB.

He's really fast and mostly accurate. With reps he will learn how to be an NFL QB.

While Mariota is a good kid, I think he'll wash out in the pros. He may be more accurate than Jack but that's not saying much, plus Jack had more of a cannon. Mariota is faster and smarter than Jack too, but he likely faces the same issues as rg3 and kaepernick in staying healthy and actually knowing how to be a threat throwing the fucking football.

The problem I see with Mariota is that he's never really had to check down to his 3rd or 4th WR. Oregon's scheme is simply not NFL friendly in that it's one (maaaybe two) read and throw or run around and hope to find a WR open.

Another problem is that tOSU showed what happens when a team has a very good and deep front 7, they can shut down the running game. On most Oregon drives, tOSU was not biting on the play-action fake because they weren't really worried about Tyner / Freeman and Mariota was getting run down most of the time and hit rather than being able to run out of bounds like he did against most teams to avoid contact.

NFL execs (and me in my mom's basement) want to know, how will Mariota do when he's forced to stay in the pocket and find his 3rd read without being able to lean on the scheme / PA passing game so much?

As for Newton and Kaepernick, Newton has been banged up a few times and the shine has started to come off Kaepernick. According to this simple measure, they are both below average QB rating wise in the NFL (just below Mark Sanchez and just above journeyman Ryan Fitzpatrick):

Mariota is more accurate than either were coming out of college. I don't think arm strength is an issue for Mariota.
 
I don't think he played bad last night, and I dont think the odds of him being an nfl disappointment are any better than most highly touted qbs. I know fuck-all though.

Oregon was outgunned by a bigger, faster, more pissed off gang of football bullies. It was fucking Urban Legend on the other sideline guys. The fucking guy made Utah into a dominant team. It's not the qb's fault all the time.

Maybe in the CFL. Mariota is a project in the NFL, not that there's anything wrong with that.
