Marriota didn't play all that bad last night. His WR's dropped some critical passes. He was not the best player on the field as the 30 year tailback from Ohio State looked to be.

Another reason Mariota won't be a bust is that he's going into a fairly good situation. If he was going to Tennessee, he would be fucked. Tampa Bay has some talent on offense (V. Jackson, Evans, ASJ, Martin, Mankins). Their defense has McCoy and David. Lovie Smith might not be a great coach, but he's not a total fucktard either. Tampa Bay plays in what was the worst conference in the NFL. Carolina is the only decent defense in it.

I hope mariota succeeds. I like him. I just feel like hes going to get blown up. I dont look too deeply into things like others here (would have never noticed the one read deal peple are mentioning) but stuff like that is a concern. But if he keeps his nose in the playbook and is the first guy there and last guy out, which he seems like that kinda kid, he could be good. Lets just hope he puts on some weight. He honestly looks exactly like me, and I can tell you, if I had patrick willis running full speed at me id duck, cover, take my helmet off and walk straight home.
Everyone is overanalyzing this shit. If he goes to a stubborn franchise where they try to turn him into a pocket passer, he will fail. If he goes somewhere where he can play for a smart OC like Bevell in Seattle who knows how to use his strengths and mask his deficiencies, he will do well.

If I were a Tampa bay fan compared to what they have now I would take that
Jameis will be better early in his career. But if 5 years down the road Marietta can improve his accuracy and a lot of the other things that come with passing in the pocket he can be really good

But if running QBs who are bigger like Cam Newton and Jake Locker have been repeatedly banged up in their first 5 years in the league, how will Mariota hold up?
Johnny Manziel might be the best comparison...he played in a very similar offense and while Mariota is a few inches taller, he's more slight of build like Manziel than Newton (massive) and Locker (LB size).

Depends on the play. Sometimes it's one read, sometimes it's two reads, but it didn't seem like he was often asked to make 3 or 4 reads, at least while in the pocket. Do you recall the the long TD pass from Mariota to Marshall in their first possession after the half? Very well designed (at halftime, they noticed tOSU's safety was biting on the first middle route so they ran Marshall behind / after him) and it was essentially one read.
I can't recall Mariota ever taking a 5 or 7 step drop from under center and progressing through 3 reads (especially without taking off running). So what will probably give some NFL execs some pause is how Oregon HUNH read-option scheme created big throwing windows against most teams and unlike Winston, he didn't often to stand tall with the pocket collapsing and throw big-time NFL routes since he could often take off running with his great acceleration / speed.
Another thing is that tOSU's deep and talented DL had the upper-hand vs. Oregon's OL (Jake Fisher's draft-stock probably took a hit) and it sure looked like it affected his accuracy (throwing high and throwing wide)...his completion percentage was 4 points lower than his season average and YPA was 1 yard lower. So if he goes to a team with a poor or even subpar OL, he will probably struggle to adjust, at least compared to someone like Winston.

Everyone is over analyzing this shit. Mariota is decent size, has a solid arm, is accurate enough and smart enough to rarely turn the ball over, and is fast. There's no reason to think he couldn't be as good as Russel Wilson based on physical characteristics. Wilson has a stronger arm, Mariota has better height. Speed is a wash. I'm not convinced accuracy isn't a wash. Wilson rarely gets hit, and Mariota may not as a pro either.
I'm not saying he will be as good so don't fucking twist ya bearded cunts. Nobody really knows how a young QB will handle the NFL until they try it. His physical tools are more than adequate though.

Winston isn't that good. He was significantly aided in his Heisman year by having the best WR's in the country. 17 INT's this season.

Cam Newton has been fairly healthy, Kaepernick, Luck (who runs fairly often) and Wilson have played every game since they became the starter.
Locker is injury prone (was at UW as well) and rarely do you see a QB worse at avoiding contact when running (RGIII is in that category as well)
I think Mariotta can hold up just fine
