Mariners extend Colt Emerson for 8 years

Baseball players on the rookie contracts get screwed royally on their deals. It takes them forever to get to free agency. This is why the players should never agree to a salary cap. By the time they can get paid they have one big contract before they age out of the game.

ATBS, this kid has never played an MLB game and wasn't eligible for free agency until he turned 27. This deal takes him to age 28, so he probably did pretty well for himself without the hassle of going through arbitration.
