Canzone and Rojas for Sewald has worked out great so far. We are better this year from the trade. Both are contributing and have been good additions to the lineup.
I really like Canzone. He was a 4A player, right on the cusp of the majors. Great hitter in the minors and finally we added someone that does not strike out at a high rate. Rojas has been even more important, considering how bad Kolton Wong was.

I really like both guys at least offensively. Canzone makes contact and has decent power. I think he'll walk more as he settles in too. Rojas has a couple of pretty good seasons already under his belt and has really picked it up lately.
It was a good return. Bliss might even be a decent major leaguer.

Wanted to respond for a few days...life. Up until 10-15 years ago, you were what you were when drafted, and then it was survival of the fittest. Adjustments, new pitches, arm slot were pretty-much last-ditch efforts to save failing careers. Pitchers refused instruction all the tim (when offered), out of ignorance, pride, and that coaches just weren't that knowledgeable.
Relievers were washed up starters, or guys that just weren't good enough to start, and rarely pitched unless the starter bombed out early. When I was a scoot, if I turned in a guy as a reliever, it was a non-starter (heh-heh) unless the guy was 95+, with a second pitch that was workable. A lot of the pen guys we see now are/were not starters, because of funky deliveries, lack of a third/fourth pitch, or command issues likely caused by the delivery. You get a guy with a great arm, get 2 plus-pitches (grade-wise) out of him (big FB, slider or split), and hammer location and sequencing, and let him go.
I had a stud about 12 years ago, 90-92 in HS, with a plus curveball, and a ++ slider. I worked with him for 3 years on a change-up, and his hands were so big, he couldn't get the feel of it. Same in college...when he signed pro, they junked his breaking balls, taught him a split (I refused to let him throw one, because it hashes the elbow), and he became a back-end guy, playing for 6-7 years.
Scouts look for arm action, athleticism, and aptitude, in addition to the tools. These guys have big arms, were under-used in college because of command (a big plus for scouts, btw, no over-use). Tech has caught up, and the M's max it out. The clubs that were in early on it changed the game, not unlike Moneyball...

It's still a long, rough road to the playoffs. Texas is still good. Houston is still good. Toronto is 4 back now but they're good too. Ms need to keep winning 2/3 to make sure.
Final 10 games of the season are against the Rangers and Astros. 7 with Texas, 3 with Houston. That'll be a wild 10 day run.
