I'm bias, but I think the Grateful Dead is huge on here as they represent Americana. They played, Rock, Blues, Jazz, Bluegrass, Country, etc.

Nash was from England, so CSN was only 2/3 American.

Like @alumni94 , the Grateful Dead are my all time favorite American rock group. But I can't consider them the "greatest" because at the end of the day, they are still a cult band, albeit the most important cult band that ever was.

I left off a few groups where the head man wasn't from the US...Neil Young and Crazy Horse would be near or at the top but he's from Canada eh. The Jimi Hendrix Experience would be near the top but his drummer and bassist, not to mention the guy who discovered him and put them together, were Brits. I didn't include Santana, even though they were just about as American as apple pie, because they're usually thought of as a Mexican-American band.

The Dead put me to sleep. I know there was a lot of talent there, but their sound, to me, is very hollow and dull. I don't like the hippie jam sound.

Before I lost all of my cds about 15 uears ago I had more Santana disks than anyone else aside from Neil. I couldn't get enough of them for a while. I did hang on to my copy of Caravanserai and still play it in the car sometimes.

It’s called If I Leave Here Tomorrow. For some reason I watched Lynyrd Skynrd at the Oakland Coliseum in 77 on YouTube last night. It was crazy how many girls were into it.

Anyone else seen it? What’s the consensus on Lynyrd Skynrd?

Every time I see clips from that concert I can't get over the fact that there so many white folks watching an outdoor concert in Oakland.

Gimme Back My Bullets is going to get some play after Inauguration Day.

Skynrd and AC/DC were the only two bands to listen to in 79/80. Nothing else mattered.

gimme three steps - the live version off the double album. Not part of the official lyrics but what other song can you think of that so gratuitously refers to a woman as a "cunt."
