Look what they did to my son (aka OFFICIAL mob movie actors couch sale thread)

I've told this story a CSB million times (fuck off if you don't like it). But I will always remember the day Sonny's personal assistant comes into the fly shop where I worked to have his new reel spooled up for a trip the the Green River.

These things come in 3's.

The next gangster in the dead pool?

De Niro.

Good thought, but it'll be someone we'd never think of.

Also didn't Henry Hill just die recently? He fits in a weird way. Maybe he was the third.

Just watched him in Magic City the other night.

If you haven't yet, fucking watch Magic City. It's free on Peacock, the women are hot AF, and Danny Huston is a masterful villain, opposite Jeffrey Dean Morgan's Jewish Hotelier character.

P.S. Sonny kicking the shit out of Carlo is a thing of beauty in the original GF.

I first new of James Caan from John Wayne flicks, way before I had ever watched the Godfather.

Brian's Song is boomer legend

Godfather is too. Goodfellas and Casino are way more entertaining movies.

Plenty of kids your age love it too.

Entertaining is subjective. Casino and Goodfellas are great. Godfather is more dialogue based, isn't narrated, and let's you slowly sink into the world You figure out who everyone is, who works for whom, and follow character development naturally rather than being spoonfed with narration.

They're all good. I rate em: Godfather, Goodfellas, Godfather 2, Casino.

I could never get into the Godfather. Tried watching it twice. Both times, after about 30 min into it or so, I just found myself not caring about the characters, as they were completely unrelatable, and seemed very shallow and one dimensional. Plus, I had already seen several other Mafia movies that came out afterwards, so a lot of the Mafia elements of the Godfather seemed cliche and lame.Though I do understand that The Godfather set the standard. But standards schmandards.... I'd rather watch the three stooges than laurel and hardy.

Overall, it just felt like a very boring movie. And I like a lot of movies from that era... James Bond, Deliverance, Star Wars, Dirty Harry, The Sting, etc. I had no problem getting into those movies decades after they had come out. But the Godfather... Tried it twice. Just doesn't have what I'm looking for in a good movie. And I agree, Goodfellas and Casino were much more entertaining. Not sure why. Maybe there's something wrong with my brain .
