He's a low-life petty criminal. Or whatever. He certainly isn't scary. Had a bad case of the wannabees and some players took full advantage.
Funny thing about the Nevin story. Even while Donna Shalala and the other upper campus leadership were welcoming this dickhead while he was writing checks (isn't that always the case? see Epstein and Harvard), Randy Shannon, for all his faults, smelled trouble on him early. Players have said publicly that Shannon would tell them privately and in front of the team at practice to not go around him. And here you have the relatively famous and well-heeled President of the university taking pictures with him, and the football coach is telling the football players to avoid him because he's trouble.
Street smarts, which Randy had in abundance, are underrated.
