Even A little Hydrochloric acid squirted on a wheel bearing could become a serious issue to a rail car.
But who would do anything stupid like that?
 
Not a good time to be connected to the Clintons or a catastrophic train crash.

Who poured acid on the bearing? Nobody. Bearings breakdown after a while that's the whole reason they have hot box detectors... the question is did NS have their temperature set too high so as not not delay the train? Well if they did, it bit them in the ass.

Good lord, read the post, it is hypothetical and was an example in response to how easy sabotage can be.

it's absolutely plausible/possible but I didn't say anyone did it.
