Re: NEW: Leach's contract rolled over through 2019
Okay so.....he's now tougher to fire and his seat just got cooled down if it were even a little warm. Hopefully that'll help the DC search.

coogs gotta coog.

There is nothing wrong with quadrupling down on mediocrity. The rest of the pac12 continues to hire good coaches

The cougs gotta coug

The buyout and the raise is what really matters with a roll-over.

The buyout actually dropped, making it easier for him to get shit-canned. With only a 900K buyout, that I'm sure is paid out pro-rata over the remaining course of the contract and probably reduced by whatever he makes at his next coaching stop, this is just window dressing. Wazzu could fire him next year and pay 900K over 4 years. That's not a prohibitive amount and wouldn't stop them from firing Leach if he goes off the rails next year.

If you want to see a fucked up buyout look at Steve Alford. He's due over $10M if he gets fired before 2019.

I don't think that's how buyouts work.

Buyouts work if the other guy hires him....if WSU fires him they pay the full amount of the contract. (see Pelini at Nebraska)

Most aren't like that.

Looked up news of the old contract. Apparently he's due 60% of the remaining contract if he's fired. If that's still the case...then wow. The 900K is if he's hired away. You are correct.

Man WSU fucked on that one. If he is good and someone steals him, they get dick. But if he sucks they still owe him a load of money even if they fire him.

But how is Moos a bad AD?

Bull Moose and Leech have pics of the university president at a donkey show.

No other logical explanation for tying up 5 years of salary (even at 60%) on a guy who hasn't had a winning season yet. Or an AD whose contract runs through the same year who has yet to run an annual budget in the black.

I am going to tell my kids to either take up welding or get into sports management/coaching. Easy money.

Flat out wrong.

Leach is due 100% of his remaining contract (just rolled over) if fired but, Leach only pays 60% of one year base salary if he's hired away to coach like at Florida or USC or something.

Maybe you are Mike Leach contract clause superiority guy. But what I read in the Seattle times, and the link above do not agree with either of what you said.

I know there's a joke here about being extended in my sweatpants, but I am not creative enough to make it.
