What is the tone among the former military and any current military contacts you may have? If shit went down - what direction do they go? For the people or for the authoritarians?

To answer your question, clearly the people all the time, everytime.

I don't know any of my brothers who doesn't feel the same.

As a follow up - do the rank and file military guys have the stones to disregard a direct order from their statist superiors commanding on high from DC?

I certainly believe so. The American military (at least the Army) very much emphasizes that it is not only necessary but part of your duty to disregard any unlawful or unethical order. It's not just a platitude, its something we have hammered into us as leaders and Soldiers.
