That's what the politicians want you to think. Read some articles by Elizabeth Nolan Brown for Reason.com (a libertarian online magazine). They don't find many underage girls or coerced women. They're just busting more consensual adults since there is a butt load of federal money tied to it.

I have represented minors that were trafficked so I can assure you it happens.

That being said I would agree local police motivations can be clouded and some type of legalization/regulation would likely be more effective than busting dickheads.

This. I've worked a couple of these operations. The Feds give out huge grants to local agencies for these ops. The motivator for the cops is they can seize cars used by suspects they arrest IF the suspect owns the car outright.

It's fucked up because the cops are only able to arrest some dudes trying to get laid. Meanwhile, there are women & teen aged girls being trafficked by pimps and there's not much being done to put a stop to that shit.

I completely agree with you. Anyone underage and adults who are forced/coerced into the sex trade is fucked up. It happens, I'm just very suspicious as to how much more it's happening.

There's stories every year about how the Super Bowl and other events are destinations for sex traffickers. And who do they end up busting? 100 guys looking for a handjob and 12 women looking for a few extra bucks to buy a new pair of shoes.

My problem is when politicians, police, and prosecutors conflate adults choosing to engage in consensual sex into "sex trafficking" hysteria.
