I’d just like to hear a normal authentic response with peeps not trying to major in drama for a change. Jesus.
 
I never watch rebuttals, ever, and I don't care which side it is doing the rebutting. In the past the rebuttal was taped which meant that it was neither rebutting what was said by the President and most often was far, far off the topics spouted by the President in the SOTU. That made it irrelevant. In that last few decades it has gotten worse. I know how this works. They script and memorize a speech, then take the 60 minutes during the SOTU to re-write. No one but the best orators are good at last minute re-writes. I also know that they have an acting coach for the rebutters. This makes it unnatural, forced and uncomfortable. I remember a rebutter when Trump was president. She was so cringy that I asked my wife to turn the channel so I didn't have to hear it in the background.
I liken being asked to give the rebuttal equivalent to being asked to host the Oscars. It is a no-win situation.

No bearing on November that's agreed. I like to listen to counterarguments. What I don't like is when people use their 15 minutes of fame to put on a melodramatic play in a creepy dark kitchen setting. Just speak normal for shissakes.
