On the hot seat now?

Cal probably doesn't have the funds to buy him out even if they wanted to

It seems like his buyout is $3.25 million so not bad at all.

But I think he gets one more year unless the wheels fall off.

He’s a good coach. He’s trying to win at a place that cares less about football than UW. I don’t want him here unless we are talking about DC but he’s in a tough situation. He’d look a lot better at ASU or UCLA.

He’s a fine defensive coordinator but he is getting worse quickly at cal. It’s not hard to win 6 games as a head coach no matter where you are and that cal team is awful. Need I remind you he lost to lake?

I don't think Wilcox is a terrible coach but being at Cal is a fairly difficult job all things being considered

Wilcox's long term future is being a high end DC at a strong program ...

He's kind of like a defensive Gilby to me ... very good coach that isn't a terrible head coach but far from an elite one

I'm trying to be nice ...

I save terrible for absolute disasters ... let's go with (well) below average

Cal didn't support Gilby. He'll do great here

Tedford>Snyder>Mooch>Wilcox>Dykes>Gilby

I might've missed one. Mooch and Wilcox could be reversed. Who cares.

Holmoe and about 27 other coaches before Snyder

Bruce Snyder? 7-4-1 and 10-2, #8 in the nation in his last two years there. Even Gilby won 9 his first year with what Snyder left him. Can you imagine Jimmy winning nine games this year? He was also two minutes from winning a national title at ASU. He wasn't Don James but he was pretty good for Cal. When anyone else wins 10 at Cal they can be better than Snyder. Until then he's number 2. Forgot Holmoe. He's below Gilby.

Going from hypothetical 12-0 to real 6-6 and then 1-10 was an absolute disaster by my standards. You're still just being nice, I think.

I still think Wilcox is a good coach and will retire a respected coach a long time from now. I think Cal was a really tough first HC job and he has kept them pretty competitive which is more than a truly shitty coach, a Gilby or Lake, would have done.

It's not enough though. I think his path is to go back to coordinating. If he finds the right job and is part of a couple of dominant teams down the road then I could see giving him a good head coach job. He hasn't earned it yet. He would've had to do something impressive at Cal and he hasn't. He's been decent.

He doesn’t really seem to enjoy being the face of the franchise. He’s pretty reserved and not super aggressive in recruiting. Like him as a dc though.
