Funny story tim with creep.
FIL had an arsenal and took me target practicing when young creep was young. Shot the 30-06, which had a scope, at an old truck door. Thing kicked back and left a semi-circle cut in my forehead that bled right down between the eyes and onto my nose. All the old guys laffed at me for years about that. The recoil and noise was unreal. And the damage to the truck door was extensive. Yeah, that thing goes into somebody's neck it's going to be ugly and not just leave a round hole.

Don't have much experience shooting at soft targets. But a neck isn't a truck door. I've seen bullet holes in metal and they are punch holes. If the shot was just through the jugular it isn't like when the bullet hits the bone. Just asking.

The 30 ot on the truck door was not a punch hole. As Sleddy says, it's a big hunk of metal coming at you hard. It does damage. From what I've seen, what one of those will do to flesh will be ugly.

A .30 caliber bullet at around 2800fps at impact at the described 147 yards does massive soft tissue damage. About ammo over the counter or in some hunters stash for hunting is soft point. Copper jacket soft lead core, made to expand on impact. It would cover people in blood and tissue. Talking pink mist with chunks. Did we see that? No.

FYI that injury from scope crawling and improper technique is often refered to as the "order of the crescent moon". Usually leaves a scar. I don't have one. Been shooting a 30-06 since I was a kid. Had lots of fun with WWII Armor Piercing ammo too.
