I actually am a superior court certified expert witness in firearms. I have a strong belief that that rifle did not kill Kirk. A 30-06 bullet at 145 yards should have easily penetrated completely through his neck and and nearly decapitated him and killed or wounded someone behind him. There are some exotic types of ammunition that would penetrate less but most anything you would buy at a local store and would be used to hunt deer would have done great damage and over penetrated Kirk.

It's tough on me knowing almost everything.
You should be a little more sympathetic.
Having killed game with high power rifles I know first hand what they do. Autopsy photos are available online if you have the stomach for it. I have literally removed an entire shoulder and leg from a deer on the exit of a bullet. I was a "sniper" (we don't really use that term) on the PD but never had to shoot anyone with my .308 Winchester which is very similar to a 30-06 ballistically.

I got caught up in some social media feed loop this morning and the conspiracy this guy was talking about this being an Israeli inside job and they pointed out two guys in slow motion launching into grab something on or very close to Charlie and one guy put something in his back pocket. They suggested it was coordinated with a guy close to Charlie in the crowd in front of a couple/few rows back. I wasn’t quite awake but they suggested it was a small explosive device.
I’m not suggesting it’s possible or believable but who f’ing knows.
