Or, we lose if the Pac-12 refs don't shaft OSU with a shitty spot on 4th and inches from the UW 5. It was as close to a loss as it was to a 35-14 game.

UW's first scoring drive was after getting bailed out with a bogus PI call on an uncatchable ball to Nacua. UW's third touchdown came after Nacua failed to control a red zone pass, dropped it, picked it back up, and it was incorrectly called a fumble instead of an incomplete pass. Later, OSU was denied a TD on two straight ridiculously bad spots. Not a single bad call went for OSU.

That's between a 14 and 21 point swing in a six point game. The narrative playing out in my head is that the Huskies lost the game but got bailed out. There's nothing hopeful about that.

Not to nitpick but the delay of game called on us after the refs screwed OSU on the fourth down spot was not a delay of game. That was a horrible call and they blew the whistle early - which helped Oregon State.

Also, we spot Oregon State ten points off the bat with the world’s worst long snapper and missed chip shot FG. Can’t cherrypick bad luck only for one team without also considering how it went the other way.

Then recruiting came and it went like I expected which is why I started saying I was concerned about recruiting in April when all the so-called recruiting insiders kept making excuses and kept saying let it play out. All the holes I thought they had with this recruiting staff showed up and what was most disconcerting was the lack of a plan with recruiting. We missed on almost every DB, got dominated by Oregon, and struggled to recruit instate. But I thought, hey maybe the product on the field will be good enough to mask those flaws but nope. The offense ran tonight isn't a pro-style offense because no team in the NFL is dumb enough to run this. This offensive style is outdated and easy to defend. Stacking the box, running the same play over and over, not stretching the field might work against Oregon State but it won't work again for the good teams. I thought Jimmy could compete with Mario and Oregon but I was wrong. Even if he did have an epiphany and realize his mistakes, the budget wouldn't allow him to fix it but sadly I don't think he realizes his mistakes. What I saw tonight is a coach who will be competing with Stanford for third place. Hopefully, I'm wrong and overreacting but sadly I feel we are back in the 7-8 win level like under Steve Sarkisian while Oregon is back to competing for Championships under Mario as they did with Chip Kelly.

Yesterday was definitely a winning day for Jimmy ... if he can replicate that weekly he'll turn everybody into massive doogs.

My biggest concerns with him remain on the recruiting trail and what happens when we run up against a good tea and his in-game decisions become more impactful ... does he stay one step ahead or does he have some pants shitting moments along the way?

Last nights game looked like a bunch of other games we had during the Pete era, especially openers. This looked exactly like the Cal games, the ASU game,, the Rutgers BSU,and Hawaii openers, and especially the Zona game where that little qb and RB gashed us for like 300
The question is... will Jimmy say "I'm glad we won but we have a ton of shit to clean up so we start working on that tomorrow." or does he say, "well, we won the game and thats the goal so we'll just keep plugging along. This season doesn't really count anyways."
If he takes the first route, then Jackson Sirmon, Ty Jones, and Josiah Bronson's positions should immediately be open competition, this JV taking turns at RB thing needs to be nixed, and they need to start figuring out the pass game. You can beat Oregon State by runningbthe ball 55 times but not many other teams. I do think a part of yesterday's offensive plan was due to them thinking Thomson was going to be the starter and then having to switch to someone else right before, at least I'm hopeful that was the case.

I agree that Lake has a lot of arrogance that could be his downfall. But the one thing he’s been willing to do is pull players when they aren’t getting it done. Last year Cam was replaced by Asa and Kyler was replaced by McDuffie after the first 2 or 3 games.

So I’m holding hope he will be willing to objectively look at Sirmon and Jones and do the needful.

As for the DL, Tuli and Latu being hurt really made Taki and Bronson play a lot. Not sure if they were trying to protect the freshman, but you need to get Bandes and Tuitele and Ngalu in there.

Lastly, in concur that I think Thomson was supposed to be the starter and then his injury made it between Morris and Sirmon.[/b] And Lake after the game mentioned Morris won’t make the mistakes to hurt the team. I think the game plan was to manage the game and don’t make mistakes in a freshman’s first game. Sirmon has all the tools but he must have been making a lot of bad decisions in camp for him not to get a shot.

Much like you yesterday, I'm just having a little fun. Lot of hawt takes off of the first game without any LIPO. Of course this is also a message bored built on extreme reactions so it's expected.

But after months of trying to LIPO on Jimmy and convince myself that he's not just saying the right things but actually is attempting to act on said things, last night was cathartic.

Yep. Watching the game yesterday felt great. Kwat's defense looked outstanding, Morris looks like he could be the real deal, especially if he continues to improve. If things continue on this road, we should be able to easily dismantle our next few opponents up til the Oregon game. Take away the WR drops and the first 3 quarters against Arizona are as near to a perfect game as you can have, especially for a freshman QB making his second start.

That being said, we could easily come out flat in our next game and have a huge letdown like we saw so many times throughout Petersen's tenure. Gotta avoid that. I like Jimmy's cockiness. His post-game comments were a refreshing change to Pete's constant "we're still learning and we do our best". I think the team will feed off that and it could help them avoid coming out looking like they all have sticks up their asses. In terms of recruiting, im not as worried if we continue to win. I've been a huge critic of our recruiting efforts this year but I do think there is some truth to players wanting to see what Jimmy would do as a HC.

Sark had an underwhelming game against this team at home in the rain in 2013 in year 5 with all of his guys in there. He had a few blowouts over Colorado and Cal who were historically bad at the time that year. And he got his ass kicked against Arizona on the road and lost to a shit tier beavlet team the a few years before.

He beat down Boise but so did Jimmy last year on a neutral field.

He did not break it off in mosster's ass in a difficult year to get guys reps with a brand new starting quarterback and no standout back.

On the bright side, it was nice seeing something that's been so rare over the last three years: open receivers. That's scheme. What's also encouraging is that these plays not working was entirely on players (inaccurate downfield passes and butterfingers) and not poor scheme/predictability. I refuse to believe that these receivers, as a unit, will continue to drop passes at such an unprecedented rate. Seems like an outlier or lack of experience thing. And Morris will either get his downfield passing fixed or help is on the way next year with ISHIT and a more experienced Garbers.

I was on the side of not liking what I saw from Donovan last week--not that I mind running the ball and leaning on the defense, but I do mind the poor red zone performance and inability to go away from the run when it stopped working--but combine the two games, and I have to admit I'm intrigued.

Like a few above warn, though, that was such a massive turnaround week on week that my worry is just that Arizona is really terrible and was poorly prepared. It's going to take a lot more weeks like this to fully convince me.

Bottom line, UW proved to themselves that they are capable of completely dominating an inferior P5 opponent. Not every team, and certainly not every UW team of the last several years, could do that.

So many positives out of this one. You are also seeing newer guys who will continue to improve.

Cam Davis is an all Pac-12 talent at RB. Nacua is a gamebreaker (when he catches). Dylan Morris has a great skillset for college fb. Jalen McMillan will eventually catch those bombs. Cade Otton is an All-American TE. ZTF is All-Pac12 talent.

The offensive scheme, albeit agains inferior opponents, includes power running and downfield passing with the actual talent to execute both at a high level.

So, LIFPO but you can't deny that the pieces are really there.

That being said, we could easily come out flat in our next game and have a huge letdown like we saw so many times throughout Petersen's tenure. Gotta avoid that. I like Jimmy's cockiness. His post-game comments were a refreshing change to Pete's constant "we're still learning and we do our best". I think the team will feed off that and it could help them avoid coming out looking like they all have sticks up their asses. In terms of recruiting, im not as worried if we continue to win. I've been a huge critic of our recruiting efforts this year but I do think there is some truth to players wanting to see what Jimmy would do as a HC.

It's fine to point out where there are areas to improve, etc. like Pete would willingly do ... but you also need to go out and reinforce positive behaviors as they happen. It's also one thing for those things to happen behind closed doors and another for those things to happen publicly. Let's not sugar coat that players want to get positive press and they know about it whether it's admitted or not. It's so important to hear the same consistent message. Low key this is an area that could really help in recruiting down the road.

Some of it was totally within their control and when you look at some of the coaches on staff and their reputation as being average at best recruiters. The part that Jimmy couldn't control was the arguments being used about him being a first time head coach and how ill prepared he was by hiring JonDon. Without being able to get kids on campus to see the program from the inside, watch practices, etc. When you're able to watch the games and see all levels of the offense succeed and then on defense just watch what happens on a laughable level.

When he got took the job, I was nervous. Anyone who knows Jimmy knows he's cocky and stubborn, that's a trait that could be good or bad depending on the coach. But then he had his press conference and I got excited. He talked about being aggressive on the field and on the recruiting trail and I thought his energy was needed to get this program back on track and get them back to competition with Oregon. But then he made his staff hires which made me scratch my head. Keeping KB and Bob, two guys who are worthless on the recruiting trail and are average coaches at best didn't seem aggressive. Then he promoted Will Harris to DB coach, brought back Terrence, and promoted Cato from within, all safe moves. Then came the OC hire, after failing to bring in Kellen Moore, he hired an OC that had a laughable resume and someone who basically left for dead in the NFL. But I thought, maybe he knows something I don't so give it time and see it play out.

Then recruiting came and it went like I expected which is why I started saying I was concerned about recruiting in April when all the so-called recruiting insiders kept making excuses and kept saying let it play out. All the holes I thought they had with this recruiting staff showed up and what was most disconcerting was the lack of a plan with recruiting. We missed on almost every DB, got dominated by Oregon, and struggled to recruit instate. But I thought, hey maybe the product on the field will be good enough to mask those flaws but nope. The offense ran tonight isn't a pro-style offense because no team in the NFL is dumb enough to run this. This offensive style is outdated and easy to defend. Stacking the box, running the same play over and over, not stretching the field might work against Oregon State but it won't work again for the good teams. I thought Jimmy could compete with Mario and Oregon but I was wrong. Even if he did have an epiphany and realize his mistakes, the budget wouldn't allow him to fix it but sadly I don't think he realizes his mistakes. What I saw tonight is a coach who will be competing with Stanford for third place. Hopefully, I'm wrong and overreacting but sadly I feel we are back in the 7-8 win level like under Steve Sarkisian while Oregon is back to competing for Championships under Mario as they did with Chip Kelly.

Yesterday has us all fired up. But as someone else said, let's remember that Sark had games like that too. It's too soon to crown or dismiss. There were many people on Dawgman angrily calling me out in 2010 when Sark's Huskies had an impressive outing. I am much more optimistic today than I was 24 hours ago. And I want to believe. But LIPO.

Yes. CFB is a constant battle of narratives 365 days a year and momentum comes and goes. In the absence of any positive momentum since the JonDon hire yesterday was a huge statement.

Bottom line, the most complete and dominant performance of any P12 team this year. Every coach in the league knows it.

Obviously UW has to keep it up. I really hope they do.

Recruiting will be good if we win. It’s that simple. We are having fun and playing with some moxie. I feel very good about everything other than the drops and DT depth. We need Bandes and Tuitele to grow up fast. We miss Tuli a lot and I would feel a lot better about being able to play the run if he were healthy.
