Kwat likely has no aspirations of being a HC. He's hitched his wagon to Petersen and I wouldn't be surprised at all if he went to Pete and said, "Hey, how about we give Jimmy the reins next year? I'll help him out and keep an eye on everything but he's obviously moving up and we don't want to lose him."

I doubt he went up to Pete and recommended this to get Jimmy to stay. I think it’s more likely Pete convinced him to do this.
