Jaylon Johnson (2017, DB, Utah Commit)

We are going to have so many good DBs that we? are going to have to start injecting serious 'roids and then move some to linebacker.

Here is our DB depth for next year. I was actually surprised to see that we are somewhat "thin", but loads of talent...

CB: Byron (Rfr), Love (Rfr)
FS: McIntosh (RJr), Gilchrist (RFr)
SS: Turner (RSr), McKinney (Fr)
CB: Miller (Jr), Joyner (RSo), Taylor (Fr)
Nickel: Rapp (So), Molden (Fr)

I didn't include Trevor Walker and Brandon Lewis, because... yeah. We are almost exclusively a nickel team now.

I think this is more telling us that ipm is not coming perhaps? Either way it will be interesting. It would be nice to mess with Utah after they put the full court press on ty mf jones.

I think they might be thinking that we might lose a DB or two this year to attrition (Brandon Lewis makes sense with his injury past). Also, I think they might have thought that Budda was going to come back.

IPM could play LB for all we know, he has the frame for it, so not sure it involves him.

I thought he was Azeem's future replacement.

The twitters lead you to think he is still coming. The pro tbs'ers say he is likely asu. Who knows?

I think he would be more of an outside linebacker but I could be off. He has great hips so just get him in the Field.

I think IPM will be a LB in our D if he comes. And god I hope he does.

I agree with Coker in that I think this is about getting some extra depth at DB.

The kid is a baller. Best recruit in Utah's history I think.

Assuming Lewis and/or Walker get put on a slow boat to China medically retire, sign him up!

He is a California DB who is leaving the state, why wouldn't he want to play for Lake on this defense?

I also love that every single 247 Crystal Ball prediction was for him to commit to USC. Really reinforces the value that the experts deliver for your $10.95/month.

Why does everybody want to get rid of Walker???

It's not that I want to get rid of him, it's that if he were to retire/grad transfer, I wouldn't be upset. He plays on special teams some and is on the depth chart. He played in every game this season in some capacity and notched seven tackles and one forced fumble. So he has contributed something, but not much. He is a replacement level player, in the parlance of baseball stat nerds.

This Johnson kid looks like an amazing cover corner. I would be fine with landing him regardless, but it makes even more sense if there is attrition in the DB room.
