It was Jalen McMillan’s first Notre Dame experience. But for his head coach Anthony Goston who was alongside the elite receiver, it was a trip to a University and football program he’s had a relationship with for years.
Back in 2011, Goston came to know Notre Dame’s wide receivers coach and California-area recruiter Mike Denbrock who was recruiting a San Joaquin Memorial running back at the time.
Coincidentally, when the Denbrock connection was built, Goston’s daughter had recently chosen Notre Dame as the University in which she’d take her undergrad with bigger plans for Law School down the road.
As his daughter had served as San Joaquin Memorial’s team manager under her father, she continued that path within Notre Dame’s football program where she worked for four years.
Having moved his daughter back to South Bend in the summer from Washington D.C., Goston returned to Notre Dame on Thursday morning via a red-eye flight with McMillan.[/i]
